Platinum ring

Hi

Looking for views on this please, thank you for any comments in advance
So..I've been given a Platinum ring, just a plain band ..long story, which i won't go into!
Its a fairly old ring fully hallmarked and fits me if I wish to wear it. However,... it has been worn a lot and there are lots of scratches, there is also an engraving inside the band.
My questions are these:
1. Can the ring be polished up?
2. Can the engraving be removed so it cannot be seen? I don't like it.
3. Would it be possible to add diamonds to the ring? I'm obviously no expert but was just wondering
4. I don't wish to just scrap the ring it would be lovely to wear it / have to slightly altered.

it can definitely be polished, engraving can probably be buffed out, depending on the width/depth/condition you can probably have diamonds added - check out gypsy set stones....the thing w/ altering is it can get expensive, trick is finding the right jeweler or jewelry repair place. good luck!
