Platinum Matte Finish

I have a wedding ring set done in platinum. My set is more on white side and has the shiny polished look to it. One jeweler suggested that I give the metal a matte finish and metal will not get any dents or scratches which natural patina is all about. The matte finish would give dull look to my rings. I am looking for any professional or personal experience anyone can share.

Is this common & are there any risks involved in getting the matte finish? I'm open to ideas, suggestions, any help/advice you can give.

I think what the jeweler may have been trying to explain is that the natural patina of platinum is more on the matte side, not high polished. Therefore, the scratches that naturally happen to ALL metals, even platinum, will be less obvious. Applying a matte finish to the piece will not prevent the metal from scratching. It really comes down to a preference - if you like a matte finish, then go for it! Otherwise, keep it high polished knowing that you will have to have the piece re-finished every once in a while.

PS
Even a matte finish has to be redone after some time. This is just normal wear and tear.
