I have had my setting for 4 years and needed to get it sized down a half a size. I guess during the polishing some pitted spots were uncovered. What do I do? Is this repairable? It wasn't visible before the sizing.

I don't know anything about pitting in platinum, but I'm surprised that your jeweler gave it back to you like this. Did he notice it? Did he say anything about it or how to fix it?

Is this a cast ring?

The jeweler who sized it ( not where I bought it) said there was no way to repair it. The pitting was in the casting when it was made. I bought it from a very reputable local store so I'm surprised. I guess had it never been sized or polished it would have been fine. I hope there is a solution it's so upsetting.

That looks like porosity to me. Its possible to laser solder some metal and then polish it, but you run the chance of uncovering more porosity. Ive had greater success with a micro-welder, it lets you really heat up the metal so you can take care of the porosity. You could have a jeweler cut off the bottom of the shank and solder a new piece in its place as well.

I would recommend taking the ring to an expert jeweler, and IMHO find someone who has one of these: http://www.orionwelders.com/jewelry/filling-porosity/

Thank you for advice this really helped.
