I haven''t had a chance to go compare the size in the store which I know I should. But you guys are experts so I figure I would ask here.

If I was to compare .50 pear to a .50 round which one would look ''bigger''. I am guessing the pear shape stone would. If I am right, will it be a big difference?

I ask because I have a .50 round so I would like to get a rough idea on how the .50 pear would compare.

Once, again yes I know I should go to the store and compare but I don''t have time right now.

It really depends on the cut of each stone. If the round is cut shallow and the pear is deep the round will face larger, and vice versa if the pear is cut shallow. Usually you have to do a case by case basis on size comparison using the mm measurements of the two stones.

If I had to guess I would say that usually the pear stone may face up larger because oblong fancy shapes tend to *look* bigger...

Generally speaking, your average 0.5 ct pear will look larger than your average 0.5 ct round. Noticeably, by eye.

Ditto.

I have a .58 carat pear (my first engagment ring), and EVERYONE assumes it''s about one carat! It measures almost 5X7, and compared to half carat rounds (friend''s diamonds), it does look MUCH larger! The shape of the diamond is what makes it appear larger than the round cut! I will take some pics and post..soon! I recently upgraded to a 1.76 carat round, but was considering a 1.46 pear shape, which in my opinion looked over 2 carats compared to the round!

WOW! You went from .58 to a 1.76????? What a big jump.

I was thinking of making a pair of hoop earrings (share prongs and not the pave style because my band is the share prong so they can match) then I wanted to make pear shape chams to dangle from the hoops. I found two loose diamonds. each .46 cart. I was wondering if those might be too small. Please see my other post for the diamond info.
