Hi All,

This is my first time looking/buying an e-ring, I plan on buying a round diamond and at least 1ct. with ideal cut, I've been reading up on all the things to consider for the diamond but been overloaded with information. I have been looking on BN and WF for diamonds I live in Canada so i'm hoping to find an e-ring for about $9k cdn... So my questions are is there a big difference b/w white gold and platinum? is there a big difference between I and H colour? And how important would clarity be in my budget?

Thanks!

9k for the diamond only? What kind of setting are you looking for? You are working with $7150 USD. That's a pretty good budget.

You MAY notice a tint in i colour, but H is generally quite safe. With your budget you can easily get a 1ct in either colour.

Clarity, most people on here would say you can drop as low as SI1 as long as its eyeclean. WF will list this, which makes it easy. This way you can really maximize size, because you wont notice unless you look through a loupe. Paying for something invisible basically.

Here are 2 stones right around the top of your budget, both eye clean.

Thanks for the info, I should have been clearer, $9,000 for both ring and diamond. For the ring I was looking for something simple like this http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...-sleek-line-solitaire-engagement-ring-728.htm

I haven't been to any jewelry stores to look for rings as I heard the quality on them aren't the greatest. But, since I will have to pay about 13% tax I may take a look and compare prices from the stores in my city. That is good to know that the clarity I could drop that low and it will still be eyeclean. I will watch those videos.

I would 100% recommend you call Martin Sheffield at USAcertedDiamonds. He is in Canada so that may help you get more for your money? He is an absolute dream to work with. I have never received better customer device in my ENTIRE life. His website is kind of dated but just call him and he can show you stones in his office if you are local. You won't regret reaching out to him :-)

If you factor in 13% tax, you're really working with more like $6300 usd. WF still has some great options that will get you in under budget.

So your setting is $850

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3408346.htm 0.922 ct I VS2 $5,381
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3253498.htm 0.907 ct H VS2 $5,381
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3265519.htm 0.907 ct I VS1 $5,268
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3471309.htm 0.821 ct H VS2 $4,244

I would also suggest looking at http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/ for some very fairly priced solitaire rings. I just purchased one from them not too long ago and it was gorgeous. :). It definitely helps to be able to spend more on the diamond and still get a stunning band. Whiteflash is good but they're a tad on the expensive side.

Regarding platinum vs white gold there are some things to consider. WG will likely need replating to maintain it's finish. Platinum will just need a re-polish. If you're going with a cheaper setting and perhaps replacing it down the line then I'd stick with 14k wg. If it were an elaborate setting you intended to keep then I'd go with platinum.
