Long time lurker but first time poster and am finally ready to make a purchase in the next week or so. This is going to be a surprise for her, but from subtle hints and talks with her friends I know that she wants an oval cut, potentially with pear sides (think this was more if a small center diamond and not necessary a must have).

I am ideally looking to get at least 2.5ct and colorless, but the more research I have done the more paralyzed I have become between all the different considerations (bowties, OO, etc). I know most on here tend to focus on the online sites, which I am not opposed to, but have been looking around locally as well. Would like to keep the budget below $40k, but have some wiggle room. Any thoughts / guidance / advice would be great!

Hi New and welcome!

An oval with side pears is classic classic CLASSIC and it's wonderful to know this is a lucky lady's preference AND you have a fantastic budget!

What I would do first is contact Jon Weingarten at www.goodoldgold.com, his peeps can pass on a message if needed regarding his new branded AGS Ideal cut ovals, see what he might have or in the pipeline. They'd be able to source the pears and do the setting for you too.

Meanwhile, we'll go on the hunt to see what else is out there.

Would you be ok with a G colour if reliably graded by GIA or AGS? With a well cut oval there'd really be hardly any visual sacrifice if you're ok with that.

Here are some, the one below is I think an in house stone at GOG, it's a D but no image to know much more about it at this point, GOG should be able to provide photos and an ASET on request. I'd be curious to know more about this one.

This one's D IF, it's a bit smaller than you wanted but I felt it worth showing you, top end of budget.

D VVS, the size you want, within budget.
