After a long search and a lot of reading we ended up buying a 1.8carat I (GIA)/VS2 master cut from Enchanted Diamonds. I had Josh helping us and he hand picked it after an initial diamond we wanted fell through. It is currently at the appraiser but now we are second guessing going with such a low color.

Josh assured us that bc of the cut it faced up really white and when wearing it (in the tweezer ring...it is still loose at this time) it sparkles like crazy with just a little warmth . I happened to snap a few pics at my desk in our office and it looked so yellow that now I am freaking out.

The diamond was dirty from me touching it and they were just quick cell phone pics but is an I actually that yellow? We looked at mostly H/I/J in person bc I was thinking of a warmer diamond in a rose gold halo. I am so worried after seeing the last picture.
Help please!

I am very happy with my I color MRB. I can only see slight tint when I look through the side against a white background

Are you able to see the 3rd picture I posted? It looks so yellow. Is that just a reflection of the lighting/surroundings? I have my hand on a piece of white notebook paper and I can't remember if I had my Ott light on at my desk.

Photos are always difficult for other people to judge but honestly, that doesn't look remotely yellow to me. Did it look yellow to your eyes when you were taking the photos?

I dont think it looks bad at all (too yellow)....I do think in different lighting you are going to see more color but I think once you put it in a rose gold
setting that the color will probably be less noticeable.

However, now that you have seen the range of possible colors that it may show its kind of hard to un-see it. If you are going to constantly worry about the
color or second guess your stone from here on out it may be worth going for an "H". Only you can decide what bothers you too much.

For what its worth, I think it looks nice (but not my stone).

It's really hard to tell from pictures and I also have seen that stones sometime look 'yellower' in pics than in person...no idea why! I don't think your stone looks too warm and I think it will look great in a rose gold setting!

Thank you all! I will get the stone next back next week so I can check more lighting as well.
I was so worried about finding a new stone bc this one had no visible bowtie, nice chunky facets and a really well cut stone and I loved it until I saw that 3rd picture. Hopefully I am obsessing over nothing since I just keep staring at the few pictures I have of it while it is gone!

Thank you, I was hoping to hear from you! We didn't have time to post the specs before buying it bc he found it just as someone bought one that was very similar while he was trying to put a hold on it.
Hopefully I was just being paranoid since I know it is an I color.

Even an I in the .8ct to 1ct range looks "ivory" to me, so I think it's entirely possible that you are color-sensitive. In that case, you either need to embrace the warmth, or look for a different oval. Ovals show more tint than rounds, and diamonds tend to increase tint along with mass (weight.) It might be that you need to go up 1-2 color grades in a "fancy" (or a deep stone, or large stone) compared to a round brilliant. Round brilliants wash color the best.

Find something rose-gold color and put it next to the diamond. Or even better, drop that diamond into a rose gold mounting or stone holder and see how you like the color combination. There are different rose gold colors, too, depending on the %gold and the alloys.

Your oval is gorgeous! I think an I is just going to show a little warmth in certain lighting situations. I love icy white stones (see avatar D), but I did purposely just go for an I MRB to get the size I wanted. I absolutely love it. It's a different look, but the colorful fire is amazing. That said, I don't think all Is are created equal, as I had one years ago I sent back. Fancies do tend to show a little more tint, too. (like AdaBeta said) What I do know is if this is something that really bothers you now (tyty is right!), it will likely always bother you. That first "I" I had ate away at me and spoiled my enjoyment of what was in reality a gorgeous ring. Luxury purchases should bring joy not anxiety. You should be excited beyond belief, not obsessing over whether you can live with it, you know?:)

Fwiw, my current I is in a rose gold setting with a white gold head. I absolutely think it helps it look whiter and it is such a gorgeous look!

Thank you! What is crazy to me is how much I loved it until I snapped that stupid cell phone picture and it looked yellow. Then I started second guessing it.

I reached out to Josh at ED and he is going to see what else is available in a G or H to give me some options around 1.8-2 carat in master cut. Hopefully it doesn't completely blow the budget!

Is there any way you could swing taking home a G/H and bringing it into the same lighting. There is really such a thing as bad diamond lighting.:) I can take my D into a beige-walled office lighting environment and it will look yellowish. Just food for thought if the I didn't bother you anywhere else until this photo!

ETA I do think my I MRB photographs much warmer than it is in real life.

I think it looks very lovely. My J photographs warm in certain rooms of my house, but I never see any tint face up in real life. Looks awesome in the daylight, dusk, bathroom, stores....

Try different lighting before you give up on it.
