Hello - for our next anniversary my husband and I are looking to 'upgrade' my ring. My current ring is an oval sapphire and that would become my RHR and I'd like a oval lab diamond, either solitare or 3 stone.
I don't know much about diamonds and honestly I'm pretty intimidated. I want to do my research to 'get it right' but I'm not quite sure where to start. From the little research I've done it seems like bowties are something that I need to be concerned about. Does anyone have any advice on how to pick out a good oval? I'm thinking I'd want 1.25-1.5 carats, should I be looking for certain dimensions, depth, table, girdle numbers?
Lastly, I know for rounds cut is the most important thing for sparkle, however, ovals don't seem to have the same grading on cut? Is that right or am I really missing something? I guess I'm just confused because I was browsing a website and the only cut they had was 'very good' is that actually good for an oval? I thought anything less than excellent for rounds would be disappointing sparkle wise so I'm just so confused.
Sorry this post is all over the place, any advice, links, info, etc. on how to pick a good oval would be so appreciated.
