Our Crack Smoking Mayor

Jon Stewart on the Daily Show has had a lot of fun laughing at your mayor. Jon gets pretty good ratings . . . :wink2:

No, I couldn't vote for a drug addict. That's asking a bit much.

Why haven't you guys impeached him yet? Can you do that up there?

I wouldn't vote for a drug addict.

What I found most concerning is that he said he smoked crack during "one of his drunken stupors." Which indicates to me that he has a drinking problem too.

I wouldn't vote for an alcoholic either.

I'm with iLander. Why hasn't he been impeached?

But ask the residents of Washington, DC- they've managed to elect Marion Barry multiple times to multiple positions for over 30 years.
 
Just wanted to mention that there is a racism aspect to the image of crack cocaine.
There is way less stigma (and way shorter prison sentences) attached to cocaine, a drug of choice for many successful white folks.
 
What does impeachment do? I mean Bill Clinton lied about 'having sexual relations' with a woman-got impeached and still remained in office.

Being in the GTA I find it hard that he's still alive-he does NOT look healthy in any way shape or form-and I'm certain smoking crack doesn't help that at all.

We shall see what happens. Politicians all have some sort of dirty secret. Lets hope crack is the worst of Mr. Fords.
 
Yes, I've heard about it, and no, I wouldn't vote for him. I want someone who can make important decisions at any time and smoking crack isn't exactly conducive to that.

In a word no. Unless he is convicted of a crime, he doesn't have to go anywhere. As stated in the article, the election is next fall so hopefully we don't have to put up with him much longer.

He had allegations of cocaine usage in the past. So that is in the mix as well.
 
I watch the Daily Show. Lots of funny stuff about your mayor on there. If you haven't seen it, look it up on YouTube. Must see.

And I do agree with Jon Stewart: the mayor has brass balls and criminally poor judgement. And no, I wouldn't vote to elect him to kill spiders, much less run a city.
 
Hey guys, come on, he says he's not a crack addict and he doesn't use crack....only when he's really really drunk...phew glad he clarified that.

There have been so many non drug related issues with this guy in the past few years, from road rage to rerouting city buses for personal use. When he debated LRT recently it was clear he didn't even read a summary of the proposal.

So frustrating that his big speach yesterday was basically an announcement that he's going to run again in 2014.

And add being drunk in public to the list. The Taste of the Danforth was hilarious to watch but shouldn't have happened.
 
I heard about him on CNN, Fox News and the Daily Show.

I would not vote for him.

He's good for a snicker or two but you poor folks have to live with him! One of the aspects of addiction is the ability to deny that it affects one's performance or life -- he's in it up to his eyeballs. :(sad Reminds me of the mayor of -- where was it? San Diego? -- who groped everything in skirts & refused to go away.

They should audit city funds -- chances are they'll find he's dipped into the public till to pay for his crack; then they'd have grounds to throw him out.

I haven't heard of this, but then again, I haven't been reading the news lately. ETA - and, we do watch the Daily Show, so if I had heard about it, it probably would have been while watching that show, but we've been too busy lately.

I would not vote for him because he smoked it while drunk & IN OFFICE. If he had smoked it once way back in college and appeared healthy and it was obvious that this was in the past, it *might* be different. I'm betting he has many drunken stupors and this was just one where he just happened to be caught and forced to admit to his actions and he's probably lying about his usage.
 
Yes, I heard about this and no, I wouldn't vote for someone who smokes crack. The mayor actually called in to one of his local radio stations and pretended to be a guy who was just calling in to support the mayor. They aired the entire conversation and the discussion got pretty heated at one point. It didn't take the radio guys long to realize that they guy on the other end of the phone was actually the mayor himself and when they called him out on it, he abruptly hung up on them. I feel sorry for the folks on Toronto.....
 
I heard about it. I would not vote for him. At first I thought this was something he did years ago when he was in college or something, but then he said he smoked crack a year ago. That makes a difference don't you think?

Former Torontonian here and still have family who live in the city & GTA. What a *HUGE* embarrassment to the city of Toronto and how disrespectful of the constituents who elected him. I have zero respect for this buffoon. Moron. A completely ignorant person who has no regard for the position of power and trust, he has been given by the people.

Very much in the news here - all the other mayors in large cities must be just laughing themselves silly over this!! What an idiot....

Someone video taped him in a private living room in a complete drunken rage, saying hes going to kill someone.
Not normal, he needs to go.

Anybody remember Marian Barry? The original crack smoking mayor? He was Mayor of Washington DC back in the late 80's when he was busted in sting operation for smoking/buying crack in a DC hotel in 1990. He went to jail and then after release ran for city council, won and then ran for and won mayor again in 1994! So the US capital city re-elected him!
 
I've been following the story on NPR - they do a daily update. I would definitely not vote for him. For the crack, the drunken stupors, the hubris, or even how they describe his leadership style (likes to solve petty disputes between neighbors but doesn't enjoy policy debate).

Saw the video of the drunken rage this morning. Wow. I'd have to agree that his behaviors are not what I would consider "normal" and certainly not that of someone in a political office.

Exactly! I came onto the thread to suggest a google of Marion Barry. The sting was actually caught on videotape and he was STILL re-elected.
