Is it realistic of me to think that I can have my original stone set into a platinum pendant and buy a new stone (1.7 carats, princess cut) for my e ring for less than 10k? I don''t want clarity less than si1 but the color I''m flexible on. I''ll be having the new stone set in platinum and the very lowest color I want is a J. I have read that a J color will have a warm hue? Will that work for a platinum setting? What are decent parameters I should be looking for without going over my budget?
And I won''t be buying online. I did that once and I regretted it. I don''t like not being able to actually go inside the store.

Even if you go with a well cut stone, fancies like a J coloured princess will show a warm tint. A quick search online with reputable Pricescope vendors show that you can get a J SI1 1.7 ct PC for around $7K. I have no idea how much your local jeweller will mark up their prices.

I am sorry that you have been burnt with your prior online purchase. I would never recommend ebay, Sheno and the like. The only online vendors that I trust are www.GoodOldGold.com in NY, www.Whiteflash.com in Houston, www.JamesAllen.com , Mark at www.Engagementringsdirect.com , Wink at www.WinkJones.com and a few other select vendors. These few vendors have proven themselves as honest and selling only top notch diamonds. I have personally purchased from the first two mentioned vendors and love their service and goods.

Do you have any diamonds in your wedding band or other ring you would wear with your ering? I just got a D/E 3 stone ring, but now I notice a yellow tinge in my channel ring. I resolved the issue by moving the channel to my RH, but this is an issue you may want to consider when selecting colour.
