I'm pulling the trigger on this 1.492 F SI1 ct Canera European Round in anticipation of potentially upgrading my 1.05 G SI1 AVR. :)
https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/r4qf5a-1.492-f-si1-ideal-estimated-old-european-cut

Victor very quickly answered my questions and within an hour of my request, sent me a video comparison of two particular diamonds:
https://vimeo.com/203492217

The 1.515ct diamond he said he "would characterize as more of a true OEC and the 1.492ct as a slightly more “Transitional OEC” with a slightly higher LGF percentage. Which one you like is a matter of preference but you do actually get the more chunky faceted appearance from the 1.515ct stone."

The F SI1's faceting definitely appeals to me more. Victor said "It is an eye clean diamond. It has a thin feather along the table that’s not really visible until it’s magnified." So I'm hoping this is eyeclean to me as well. If so, it'll hit all my criteria: E-G color, Ideal polish & symmetry, about the same carat weight as my Mom's diamond, and not too deep for an OEC. Wish me luck. My current AVR has a medium culet so I'm curious what difference a large culet makes.

Its going to be gorgeous. I cant wait to see it.

Looks beautiful! Is that the stone on the left or right in the video? I like the one on the right the most but I guess that its all
personal preference.

Setting?

What are you going to do with your AVR?

It's the one on the right. :) I'm pretty sure I would get the same setting again, the Vatche Venus setting (same as my profile photo). It looks great with an ultrathin micropave wedding band.

I would use the buyback option for my AVR. Someone else will get to enjoy it! (assuming I like the Canera diamond) This isn't quite as efficient as trading up at GOG, but Jonathan told me he would only buyback the diamond if I wanted a custom cut and I don't like any of the ones he has in stock right now. Seems like both Victor and Jonathan are only doing custom cuts for OECs these days.

I love the one on the right... it was my favorite as I was watching

I love my CER, I hope you feel the same when yours arrives!

It's beautiful! Congrats! Can't wait to hear what you think when you see it.

Congrats on finding your upgrade! If you are not in a hurry to get the funds right away, you might consider trying to sell your AVR privately first on Loupe Troupe or somewhere. You might be able to get more than 75% back, and a PSer or someone could get a discounted AVR. An appraiser like Niel or David could probably help facilitate the purchase for a small fee.

Picked up the stone today...the faceting is gorgeous, but this diamond is not eyeclean to me. :( Seems like the only option for me to upgrade is to wait a long time, or go for a custom cut which I am afraid of, considering even GOG and VC seem to carry very different looking OECs in their inventories and I feel like there's no full guarantee about what kind you'll get...

Bummer! Sorry to hear you are not happy with the stone. It's hard to search for the perfect stone.

Boo:( sorry things didn't pan out.

Sorry to hear that...hopefully your perfect stone comes along soon! ;(

I'm glad I found this thread! I was looking at this diamond, and VC told me it's eye clean!

Eye-clean for one person may not be eye-clean for another. I will probably have zero issues with this stone, but OP wanted something different. Perhaps you should see the stone yourself? It is a beauty!

Hi SimoneDi, you have seen this stone then? Were you able to see the feather on the table or the other inclusions?

I have not seen the stone, however, I do have a 2ct SI2 and don't have problems with it. What I am trying to convey here is that people have different priorities and also care about inclusions differently. For example, If I look very closely, I may be able to see some of the inclusions in my stone, however, what I choose to concentrate is the light performance and not the inclusions. "Eye clean" is different for different people. My suggestion would be that you see the stone, if you are Interested in it.

I would echo SimoneDi's sentiments, as "eye clean" is a fairly subjective term, and inclusions can often be mitigated by the performance of the diamond (particularly an antique cut with large, bright flashes!). Although I have not seen this particular stone, I can tell you Victor's CACs are absolutely incredible when you see them in person so I would certainly recommend checking it out if it is of interest to you!
