Dear Pricescope Diamond fans,

I really hope that you can help me. I have fallen hard for marquise diamonds - maybe because it was my 80's dream.
I've been searching for old cuts which are not easy to find. In the meantime I've found this marquise and am considering it for a right hand ring.

Stats:

GIA
Shape and Cutting Style: Marquise Brilliant
Measurements 12.77 x 6.47 x 3.91 mm
Carat Weight 1.97 carat
Color Grade .K
Clarity Grade VS1
Polish Good
Symmetry Fair
Fluorescence Strong Blue

Lots of questions and I really appreciate any advise or feedback to help me:

What do you think about the cut of this diamond?
I did find some posts here on pricescope where Yoram (Diagem) has said he likes marquise diamonds of the cut style with four main pavilion and somewhat shallow.

Will it show color more/less in platinum vs rose gold setting?
Would light performance be negatively impacted by putting it in a bezel setting?
Is this an antique diamond?

Thanks so much for the help!

So here's why I don't usually love Marquise in lower colors. See the bottom pic? Towards the tips the color seems more obvious than in the middle. It's one thing to be ok with color, but it's another thing to be with what will appear to be uneven color. I'm not too thrilled by the cut but it's hard to evaluate just by pics. What a your budget for this endeavor?

Hi Niel,

Thanks so much for the quick response and advise. My budget is 10K for the stone. I like warm colors too! Now I'm worried about the uneven color :-(

It's not always uneven. I used to have a low color mq and the color was not uneven but it's something you have to watch for becuase it can happen. Let me look again in the lower ranges

Hard to evaluate without a video...cant really tell much about the light return and whether the depth is affecting it or not. I'm not a big fan of 4 mains.
I prefer to see arrows.
Is there any way you can get it and return it if its not what you expect?

I'm going to post a few from JA...they probably wont be as long because that stone is shallow.

Thanks Tyty for the time you took to make these recommendatons. I have looked and I like the look of the 1.57 ct. Was hoping to get a bit more coverage.

I'm living in Germany, should I send to an appraiser in the US for an assessment before shipping to Europe?

Send which stone to an appraiser? All the above recommendations from PS'ers have a GIA certification. Is the stone you found from a private seller?

cheers--Sharon

Hi Canuk-gal, the diamond is with a vendor / drop shipper. Before I ship to Europe and pay duties etc. should I send to an independent appariser?

I am not sure what purpose an independent appraiser would serve in this case. The diamonds have a GIA report. It's all a matter of your taste and preferences. Do you want an antique marquise? If so, I wouldn't settle for a modern cut. I agree with Niel that color will often concentrate in areas of marquise stones lower than I or maybe J color.
