Down on CA, up on PA is brightness

Up on CA, down on PA is fire

Why are you buying the setting online?
Ah, thanks JulieN. Now I have to come up with a cute little mnemonic device to help me remember that!!!

I have never heard of Diamonds On Web -- that setting is nice but for some reason the lines seem kind of harsh to me. I have to say I adore the setting that IndieJones posted above....it has very fluid lines.

Julie,

Thanks for your input. After the fiasco last week, I think my girlfriend now realizes that most of the jewelers are just buying their stuff online anyways and marking it up, so why not do it ourselves and save a few hundred dollars if we can? The 1.14 is from an online dealer, the 1.07 is from a B&M. I think the B&M is giving me a decent/fair price on the 1.07 after I declined the last one and told him why. I'm going to check the 1.14 at an independent appraiser's office next Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get to see the 1.07 this Saturday. Either way, my girlfriend really likes the setting above. So, if I buy the online diamond, I'll just pay a jeweler in our area to set it. Probably a different one than I've been dealing with since he might consider it a slap in the face if I don't buy anything from him and then ask him to set things I bought elsewhere. If I go with the B&M 1.07, I'd be able to ask the same jeweler to set it for us, which would be a little more convenient. I'm also planning on getting the diamond evaluated before and after setting. Either way, I don't think I can go wrong with one of these two.
the 1.07 is also on the PS search, from IceStore. I don't have a problem with B&M having higher markup, though, and I can't really expect them to charge the same for something comparable to online.

even though you're getting something as simple as a channel setting, you should expect whoever makes it to stand behind their work. the channels should be straight, and the gaps between the diamonds should be small.

Perhaps you could email The Facets Collection for a custom quote?

My girlfriend doesn''t like cathedral settings or anything with open spaces in it. She likes things that are designed a little more conservatively/plainly. She tried on a very similar e-ring/band combination at the B&M we''ve been going to and I thought it looked good on her, but then I may be a little biased. :)

I noticed that both IceStore ($9116) and BlueNile ($9721) had it listed, so I figured $9580 wasn''t unreasonable like the last one...

Thanks Julie! (btw, my girlfriend Anita also thanks you for your earlier posts, they were very helpful!)

The set below looks nice. She might like it. I''ll show her tomorrow (or today now) and see what she thinks.

Thanks again!
