Hi all,

I have purchased the below diamond it's a 0.72 carat that has scored 0.8 HCA 4ex but I was just wondering if the crown angle was to shallow?
Could you please let me know your thoughts?

If it's for a ring I would say yes. Here is a chart which you may find helpful and a link to an educational article with some fantastic diamond cut and proportion information.

I will second what @mwilliamanderson stated...we need to be very careful about shallow crown angle diamonds having moderate to significant light leakage. This particular 40.8/32.5/57 combination may very well be perfectly fine. But, there's always a chance (not just with these proportions, but with *any* proportions) that some inhibited light performance characteristics may be present, so getting and viewing advanced images are paramount.

It is for a ring which i have purchased with the diamond and I don't think I would be able to exchange it... hopefully it won't be that bad.

The HCA score also advised that it would be ideal for earrings but not for rings.

I wish I had found this forum before...

No need to worry until you have it in/on hand and get an opportunity to see it with your own eyes in a variety of lighting conditions.
This diamond would likely tend to lean towards brilliance, which is the defining measure of naming it the Modern Round "Brilliant".

I really like it, i wish the star could have been a little more visible…what are your thoughts?
 
It looks great Artu! Congratulations. Did the ring come with a loupe? You can tape it to the camera lens on your phone, then hold a toilet paper tube over the ring and you should be able to see the arrows and take a photo that way. You just have to play with the distance of the tube and the loupe to get everything in focus.

Hi,

I have managed to take a pic that shows the arrows, I was just wondering if the diamond should have been mounted a little better? two points have been covered, or this is normal?

Yes! You have every right to ask for that to be fixed. I just got my diamond reset and they oriented the top two arrows to 11:00 and 1:00 which I really like. I believe that would allow all of the arrow heads to be exposed instead of covered by prongs. Like this:

Great arrow photo by the way. Good thing you ordered a loupe. Most would probably not notice the arrow placement but it’s definitely a mind clean thing which you’ve probably picked up by hanging around here and seeing so many macro photos, lol.

Anyway the seller confirmed that could adjust the stone no problem but I will have to wait for 10 days before getting the ring back...
I was also told that this should not effect the brilliance or sparkle, is this true?

True. There will be no impact from merely rotating the diamond in the setting.
 
The supplier told me that leaving the ring as it is it would not affect the diamond sparkle and brilliance, is this true?

True. As is or adjusted minorly, it will make no noticeable difference in the performance of the diamond. The adjustment would be for cosmetic reasons.
 
Thanks for the answer, there is a possibility that once I give the ring to my partner she won't send it back...
