I’ve been hunting down a beautiful vintage engagement ring for some time. Despite my efforts to read-up on and learn, it has been extremely difficult for me to truly understand what is a good deal, what’s a bad deal and just exactly what is what! I’ve found several vintage pieces online that I love but how can I be sure that I am paying an appropriate/fair price??? And that the sites are trustworthy? Has anyone ever used 1stdibs.com or Brilliant Earth that can recommend to use them or not?

Below are two of the rings in question:

The diamond in the first ring looks very modern.
The setting of the second ring looks to be poorly made (blobby and undefined).

Also, please stay away from EGL graded diamonds as the grading is very lax/over inflated.

Would you say that the EGL rating (and the lack of credibility that comes with that rating) would make for a good bargaining chip? Because its not GIA certified. Or would you just recommend avoiding them entirely? A lot of the antique/vintage rings that I am finding are EGL rated.

If I was shopping for a vintage/antique e-ring, my first stops would be the following-

http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/

http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/

Both vendors are used by many PSers and have hundreds of reviews on here (they were formerly known as "Jewels by Erika Grace").

I agree, these would be my first stop..Erica and Grace. I really do not care for the rings in the original post.

I really like the Edwardian styling and detail of the first link in the original post.
What specifically about that one makes it suspect? Is it the EGL diamond? It has fairly details photos (and they sent me additional ones) that look great.

Per your recommendations, Grace has something similar currently in stock. Its a gorgeous ring. Thoughts? GIA certified and I like that she includes VERY detailed photographs from every possible angle.

This is one of the additional images of the first ring...
