Hi all,

I thought I wanted an emerald cut, but over the last couple months I have absolutely fallen in love with big, old cut diamonds thanks to Dreamer, Demelza & Co.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a diamond, but while I'm getting a few logistical issues sorted out, I figured I should ask your opinions on it.
Please see the pics below. Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

can you post the proportions?

Hi Muzio,

I think it looks beautiful, plus it's from a highly respected and knowledgeable seller of these types of diamonds, as you have spent time with the stone and love it, sounds to me like you are good to go. These old cuts can vary so much, if you find one you like in the size/colour/clarity, so much the better. What a fantastic size too! If you wanted a modern variation of this type of stone, cut to maximize optical performance, then Good old Gold offer their own branded August Vintage Rounds, I have seen one in person and it was absolutely gorgeous. I am not sure what your budget is, but if you wanted to look at those, if you haven't already done so, it might give you another option to consider before you pull the trigger.

I'm NOT an expert.. but I've been eyeballing that one for awhile... a friend who was shopping I kept telling her that diamond was so pretty.. and such a great price!!!

You go girl!!!! :appl:

If indeed you are after a diamond like mine and Dem's the. This is certainly in the same family! I have some concern about the size of the table combined with the length of the lower halves. Both my stone and Dem's have table sub-50%, which helps avoid some of the problems that can arise with short lower halves! like leakage under the periphery of the table. That issue looks like a hazy imprecise area encircling the inner periphery of the table, and I think I see more of it than I like in this diamond in the tilt angle shots. But you can't judge these cuts by numbers. This one is wort seeing in person. And the contrast patterning in a amaze like this will be amped up in an enclosed mount like mine or any other style that encloses the pavilion. These stones look a lot different mounted this loose.

I was hoping you would reply -- thank you very much! I will be meeting her in person tomorrow -- she is actually already mounted:

I have some apprehensions about both the diamond and setting, but I'm hoping we like each other - glad to hear there are no absolute red flags apparent :)

That setting looks very familiar :wink2: I am sure you will adore it, and I was right that it looks better in that type of mount! I think it looks fantastic.

ETA: I saw that ring in the sneak peek and I thought "it looks just like mine"! So, needless to say, I do approve. The proportions are different than my own stone, but it is the most similar cut I have seen pop up on PS yet. I can't wait to hear what you think! That mount is gorgeous.

Beautiful and a very healthy size....

Please report back! I just responded to another thread about choosing a setting and with one option being the Erika Winters Grace (which is one I've been looking at) and the other is the Victoria. I think it looks great in the pics you posted but interested IRL review as well.

Wow -- that was a long day, compounded by long lines at border! BUT I love the ring. The diamond is even more lovely in person! After my initial swoon, I was a little worried it was actually too big, but got over that issue quickly. I decided I couldn't wear it for the drive home because I'd surely be in violation of distracted driving laws :naughty:

I was actually most nervous about how I'd like the setting. I really love OECs with tight bezels, and, before settling on the Victoria, I was searching for round bezel settings. I wasn't sure how I'd like this octagonal "cup". The space between the diamond and cup was bothering me in the macro photos, but I hardly notice it in person. The whole piece is so much more delicate than it appears in photos. I also love the low profile of the setting.

I can't believe it's mine!!

GORGEOUS!

PHOTOS!!

I could never come close to the amazing job Erika Winters did in photographing the ring (above)... especially since I don't have a real camera! ...so here are some iPhone photos!

I was surprised at the colour in these first two shots. The diamond was looking pretty darn white to my eyes, but had a lot more yellow tint when I looked at the photo captured on my screen.

It's amazing!! Looks huge on your finger (in a good way - is there any other?!) but very classy

Absolutely beautiful!

LOVE!! The octagonal bezel is perfect!! :appl:

Congrats it looks great and massive on you as well!!!!

It is gorgeous.

I love the pave accent on that! It looks fantastic! :appl:
