Im looking for an emerald cut for a halo ring and have found myself drawn to the more chubby squarer proportioned stones. Budget is $2000 to $3500 and I am looking in the .6 - 1ct range, I color upwards, SI1 clarity upwards. The most important thing is to find something which has a stand-out cut. I am hoping for plenty of scinitllation and some fire, even though its a step cut, along with a pleasing outline, noticeable steps, and large-ish corners.

The guys at JA have helped me pick out the following so far:

But before I commit to choosing my top 3 for the gemologist inspection and ASET pictures I would love to get some input from the pricescope emerald/ step cut experts. What do you think of the diamonds above?

Having looking through various of the PS threads on enerald cut stones I realised that I shouldnt rule out the less-square looking diamonds either and be open to a more rectangular look (eg 1:1.3 - 1: 1.45). I am not a fan of the very long and thin look though.

Can anyone suggest any other emerald cuts either at JA or other vendors that might meet my criteria?

Calling Gypsy! You always have great advice on step cut stones. Can you give me your thoughts on these 4 please?

I love the big corners on the 1st and 3rd. I don't know much about step cuts, but hopefully someone else will see and offer you some advice!

All 4 are showing up as "not available" for me. Gypsy is taking a much needed PS break, which many of us do from time to time, to prevent burn out and to recharge.

EC3 looks interesting and a candidate for ASET imaging, if you are the one who reserved it.
Toss EC4 out.

I like 1 and 3.

Definitely choose the top three. The last stone is significantly smaller and is not even the shape you like. Before seeing the ASET images, my pick is #1. But I am open to the other two depending on the ASETs.

Thanks all.

It was me that reserved these diamonds pending some more input from the helpful folks at PS (thank you!).

From the videos Nos 1 and 3 are my favourites, however the sales person at JA warned me that No 1 will show some tint and has a smaller spread for the weight, and that no 3 has some issues with the cut symmetry, especially at the corners.

But to my eye they both look more appealing than No 2 & No 4, so it's interesting to get your feedback.

Im not sure that JA will get ASETs for me because I shortlisted some diamonds with them before Christmas with ASETs supplied before deciding to purchase a stone via Leibish and apparently they still have it on record that I have had my 3 ASETs/ gemologist inspections so are saying that they wont provide any more, even though this is a separate purchase.

I'm not sure how risky it is to buy an emerald cut on the basis of video/ GIA reports and advice from the salesperson without an ASET and gemologist inspection?

This is probably too elongated for you but it looks like a nice EC, is within your budget, eye clean and an icy white D.

Not sure whether the I colour is too warm for you, but is within budget and is possibly a nice one, other than it being a longer ratio.

Unfortunately, none of the squarer ECs looks nice and none of the asschers are worth consideration at JA.

Maybe you can appeal to Jim Schultz to see if you can get asets for this new cut/stone.
Contact info below. Good luck. If not, they have a good return policy if you order a stone and it
ends up not being what you had hoped.

Edit - I also like 1 and 3.

Thanks all for the input.

I saw that another poster was having trouble getting ASETs from JA, and someone helpfully pointed out that enchanted diamonds and B2C have photos, videos and ASETs on their sites so I may just go with one of those vendors. I'm not in the US so I can't risk having to return a fancy cut and spend months trying to get the import duty back again.
