Opinions on Pave resize?

Hello everyone! So its been a few weeks since the proposal She has sat with the ring for a little bit and we have noticed that is kinda loose. I've peeked around and read that most rings fit loose in the winter, but even when she just gets out of the shower and her hands are swollen it still slightly big. My question is, what are the concerns when resizing a pave setting, is it a complete no no? I would probably only be going down half a size. I'm taking it to David Klass in Los Angles but wanted to get everyone's thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Never resize a ring in the winter. Plus, if you add a wedding band, that can make it fit more snugly. For now, just use these:

I would be very hesitant to size a ring with a pave shank. It can loosen stones. A little too big is good. If it is still a little too big in the summer and with the wedding band, then have little sizing beads added inside the shank.

Wait until the summer, or you'll regret resizing. My rings will spin a lot in the winter, but can be pretty dang snug when it's hot. Like DS said, adding band(s) will make it feel tighter as well.

My jeweler advises to wear a ring for at least 6 mos before sizing (unless, of course, someone messed up and it was made/ordered completely wrong). I would let your jeweler know that it is not a great fit right now, so they are on "notice" in a sense... they should provide one sizing complimentary, for sure. What is the style of the ring... do you have a photo? That can impact how well it may or may not fit, depending on your fiancé's finger. How high the stone is set and also stone size as compared to shank plays a role. Also, in what part of the country do you live in? I am concerned that even when she gets immediately at the shower it goes on easily, but answer some of my questions and if you can post photos, maybe even with it on her hand that would allow us to give you more input. Even for us to see the style pave' that it is, etc.

I’m attaching a picture below. We live in Palmdale California. We have pretty extreme shifts weather wise. In the summer it’s super hot and it gets pretty cold in the winter. The stone is set as low as possible. When she gets out of the shower there is a tiny bit of resistance but not much.

If it's way too lose and you're within the 30 day return period, it might be worth having them resize and/or remake the ring if they can't resize it. I do agree that it's better to have a bigger ring than one that's too snug - weather and adding a wedding band can definitely impact how a ring fits!

Not a bad idea! thing is the ring is very dainty. under 2mm so i wouldn't want it to compromise the delicate look of the setting.

It's not crazy big but its a little loose, her ring shifts off to the side a lot. She did get measured and settled on 4 3/4. Having your finger measured is kinda tricky in the sense that it is not a real-world scenario and as you have stated, many things can impact how a ring actually fits. I'm thinking she can probably go down half a size. This would provide a happy medium for both the winter and summer months. Just to be safe i might wait till summer.

I would wait, my ring size fluctuates greatly. My fingers are swollen when I first wake, up and then are itty bitty size-wise in the PM. And that's just a normal day. With summer weather (which we don't get a ton of in the Bay Area) they are super snug!

At this finger size it's unlikely there will be huge variation summer/winter, however previous posters are 100% right regarding two rings fitting more tightly than one. Have you bought your wedding bands yet? If so, I recommend having hear wear it for a few days now, in winter, and also later when it warms up, and see how they feel together. Alternatively, if she doesn't have her wedding band yet, or doesn't want to wear it before the wedding, buy a cheapie - better to lose $20-$25 than needlessly muck with the engagement ring!

This is such a great idea! Especially since now I'm not sure what size to get the band. What size should i get the cheap band? 4 3/4 or 4 1/2?

No science behind my next suggestion, just what I'd do for myself or a friend in your situation...

A) With no additional information about wedding band I would start with a cheapie in size 4.75.
B) If you know that the band she wants will be under ~2mm wide, I would choose a size 4.75 cheapie.
C) If you know that the band she wants will be between 2mm-3mm wide, I would choose a size 4.5 cheapie.
D) If you know that the band she wants will be wider than 3mm, I would buy two cheapies in size 4.75 to simulate a single wider band.

Thanks for the advice! So I looked up the matching band. It states the bottom width is 1.9 and the shank thickness is 2.1 here is a picture
