Hi everyone,

I hope some of you can give me an honest opinion on a setting for my new Elyque (Oval) I purchased with Jonathan at Distinctive Gem.
My Elyque is a 1.904 K SI1, a tiny tiny hint of yellow, which does not bother me, I love RG but thought of YG for the K, but might have to go WG on these settings.
I would appreciate anyone’s opinion, especially @tyty333 and @Starfacet

When I first started,
I wanted a Halo and this was my vision

This was my first attempt at a Halo

This was my second attempt

I didn’t feel like either of these two attempts matched my vision, so.... I would like comments and/or suggestions please.

These are some designs we were working on or my ideas on a new setting

Your original vision is gorgeous, and I like the white gold:

I loved your second attempt, but you decided not to keep it:

Love this one for a non-halo look. I'd be curious what the profile looks like:

I like this look A LOT because it has less metal on the halo. I think this would also look stunning in white gold.

I love the effortless elegance nr 3 and 10. It is very personal though

Sorry, I forgot to add this one,
I like Nr. 5 - bezel with halo, but would choose a plain band as to not distract from the center. :)

Yes the plain band would match bezel, thank you

Your original vision is my favorite. I also agree with @Starfacet about the rest. It's a really personal choice though. Can you share a bit more about what you like, and don't like about each? That might help us assist you better.

Thank you for the feedback! Yes the 2d attempt was beautiful, it just didn’t look like the WG vision, that probably was my fault in wanting RG.
The YG halo, have smaller halo diamonds. I‘ve asked Jonathan for a pic in WG.
I wanted RG, but now might be WG, I’ll ask for both halos in RG and WG.
I’ll attach when I get them. Thanks again

I think I like the white gold best - especially for the prongs. Your first vision looks beautiful and I would like it with a plain shank as well!

It is such a personal choice and so difficult to pick, I personally love YG a but love the bezel of 8, and the delicateness of 10. Can hardly wait to see the final ring. :kiss2::appl:

Hi @Sunshine812

Since you've had your stone in two halos have you thought about how you would fell with it not in a halo? Halos provide a lot of finger coverage so
I worry that you might not be happy with the overall size if you went away from a halo. Just wondering how you feel about that?
Seems like you wanted a halo originally but the metal color has thrown you. I think your second halo was very pretty.

I would also consider smaller melee in the halo (will make the halo slightly smaller) but I think it tends to make the center stone "pop" a little more.

I'll admit that I like 2 and 3 but would probably do them in all white gold or at least white gold prongs. What I like doesnt matter though. It
needs to be what you love. You really need to spend some time thinking about it before you make your next move. Maybe buy an inexpensive
white metal haloed oval to wear around the house to see how you feel about it and maybe a non-haloed ring with pave on the shank. See
which one really floats your boat.

Here are a few links to white gold (or plat) oval halos. They are very pretty.

@Sunshine812 Echoing off of what @tyty333 said regarding losing that size appearance changing away from a halo, I’d like to suggest a bezel.
Admittedly I am a bezel fiend, but they certainly do add a nice size oomph for a stone! And you can’t beat them for comfort and security.
With that said, a quick search for oval bezels, I chose these. There are so many beautiful iterations. I would definitely bezel your oval in a white metal to take advantage of the metal color to give that visual size increase.

You will most likely feel that your diamond looks too small if you forgo a halo/ bezel.
But do you even like halos? I would go with Maytal Hannah for a delicate halo around your stone. And I would use 14k WG with nickel (there’s another thread that shows that it looks white by itself but has a slight tint to it which would help with the contrast you’ll be seeing between the K stone and any halo). I’ll attach a pic of a comparison of the metals. I would choose Metall B.

The first two settings you suggested look interesting - do you like this intricate design?

There’s also a lot of pictures that look very similiar to your old setting (just in a different metal).

What do you „hate“ about your current setting? What do you specifically like about the new settings you posted?

I am wondering if it’s possible to rhodium plate your existing ring to get closer to your original vision? Or a bezel - they are gorgeous!!

That's a good idea.

And I'm going to say something that probably sounds ugly. It's not meant to.

You have had two settings I think made by Jon's bench. I own a ring that his bench made for me. I think it's great and beautiful.

However you've had two settings that you are not happy with from him. I don't think that's a reflection on him, but instead of spending more money I would encourage you to look at another vendor. Perhaps you guys just aren't a good fit for the design aspect.

I think you would like Maytal's work.

Whatever you decide to do I wouldn't make any decisions quickly.

Ditto @elizat! Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket!

Have you looked at CVBs aesthetics? I've never had anything made by her but
her designs may give you some ideas. If you wish to go with her, search PS
so you're totally aware. Her halos are different. May not be your style but they
are unique.

@tyty333 is right about checking out Caysie and her work. I have multiple pieces from her. She can do very delicate halos or bolder. I do find that her production time can run longer than anticipated at times, but by the same token, I have sometimes been surprised by an early finish!

All, thank you so much for your comments, recommendations and opinions, they were right on track, and what I needed!

My Vision was a Halo and in WG. It was me that changed the WG to RG, but I also had issues with the prongs and spacing, but anyway.

Jonathan has been awesome to work with and very patient with me, really, he went way above the norm on customer service, I’d rate him infinity and beyond, lol.

After reading all your comments, I read again, and again, that’s just me. I knew I had to do the following:
Stick with my Vision, I love that Halo, but that Halo was a 2ct Center
So, what now, how do I get to my Vision?
2. Bought a bigger stone, 1.51 to 1.90
3. Re-try the Halo, 3d time is a charm, I’m stuck on having that finger coverage.
4. Having the ring built in 14K WG X1 Instead of RG.
5. Since I like the chunkier look of my vision halo, I kept all 22 - 2.2mms, and I didn’t lose any money. Big Plus/Bonus!
The individual that built the first 2 halos offered to make a third one, no extra charge. WIN-WIN
Jonathan @Rhino was able to get them to remake my Vision just the way I wanted, My Vision and My Halo.
I couldn’t have done all of this without him. He is without a doubt the best person I have ever worked with, and I was a HR Manager for 27 years before retirement, I’ve worked with many many many individuals.

So without further delay, here is My Vision, My Halo, see below. Thoughts?

I thought the second rose gold ring was gorgeous but I know you weren't happy with it. Have any changes been made to the prongs and spacing on the new white version? I only ask because to me it looks the same as the previous halo and my wish for you is that the third time will definitely be the charm!

I love the latest vision! I normally don't like halos unless they're chunky like yours so I really love what you came up with! I agree with Jonathan being amazing, he really takes so much time to make sure he gets you what you want. Cant wait to see it when you get it!

I still love halo’s and they really are the best way to increase the finger coverage. I think the problem between your inspiration pic and your completed ring is that the center stones are different sizes. Your center is smaller and the shape of the first setting is not my favorite for a halo.

I am going against the grain here because I basically have the same setting in a round. I can see from your latest pic that the stones were not large enough. I think when the halo is nice and tight, the whole center look’s like one piece from arm’s length. I personally love the look and don‘t think it takes away from my center. I had it as a solitaire for many years but my finger needs a sizable center and it’s going to be awhile before I get that 4 carat!

I think you are on the right track. I was so picky about any airline. This was the 3rd try for me too. I also had them lift the stone slightly to tuck the halo under and I am not sure the degree’s anymore but it had a slight tilt to keep it from looking like a UFO. The halo stones are approx. 2.25 mm (5 point) around a 2 carat round with 3 mm (10 point)

Have you thought about slightly increasing the size of the rounds at the N/S points? That can help elongate the oval and give it a more antique look. I have also seen people put slightly larger stones at the E/W points before the pave begins which will make the stone/setting looks a bit fatter like your inspiration pic. Just some ideas...I would go with PT950/RU or unplated white gold If you want to make the stones look whiter or play up the yellow undertones in that diamond.

Two things:
1. I vote for a simple halo. When there are many strands of halo I find it to be distracting from the main player, the center stone.
2. Since you bought a K color diamond and said it has hint of yellow already, a YG band would make it look very yellow, perhaps.

So would you consider WG or Plat? Keep the halo simple. Just my opinion. I have posted my wife’s halo a few times, don’t mean to be annoying. It has a simple halo, probably 1 pointers on the halo part, Plat metal. Best of luck. 613810 613809

Thank you for your response. Yes, the prongs seem to be the problem, somehow on the Renders, the prongs are good but when the ring is made, the prongs are all wrong again. It’s really been difficult for his manufacture people to get it right. See my new comments below along with the 3d try ring, please provide your comments, i would appreciate the feedback. Thx
