HI everyone,

Great community and great advice on these boards. I have been looking for an engagement ring diamond for several weeks now and have settled on my top 3 and just recently purchased one based on the advice of a JA gemologist. I still want to get peoples thoughts and see if I made a bad decision or need to reconsider my purchase. All are H color, VS2 excellent cut, near 2 or less than 2 on HCA and 0.8-0.85 in weight.

First the one I have purchased

Now the other 2 I was considering

The only concern I have is that I did not do ASET/idealscope images and they seem to be the norm prior to purchasing around here.

Thanks all!

Well…..none of the 3 are ones I would've chosen or recommended, especially without an IS or ASET.

The one you purchased has a pretty shallow crown angle. Ideally you'd be in the range of 34-35 degrees for a GIA stone. Yours is 32.5 degrees.

Stone 2 has a large table, a shallow crown angle and a steep pavilion angle.

Stone 3 has a large table and a shallow crown angle.

Here are the parameters that will be most likely to give you the best performance.

Table: 55-58%
Depth: 60-62.3%
Crown angle: 34-35 degrees
Pavilion angle: 40.6 to 41 degrees

I would ask for an IS or ASET of the stone you bought if you are really loving it. Or, look for diamonds that fall within the above ranges. On JA you can do an advance search and set the range for table and depth (but not CA or PA unfortunately) and that will at least weed out some.

Thanks for the help. I am going ahead and getting the extra images to help make sure I will like this diamond.

One thing that is interesting with the combo of crown and pavilion angle it meets ags "ideal" but just barely, which is why I went ahead with the purchase (and based on what JA was telling me). It had been hard for me to find the perfect angles that you listed in my search on JA/whiteflash in my budget for a 0.8 carat.
