Starting a new thread as I'm looking for some opinions on stones...

Currently having my 1.3 recut by BGD which will come out to about a 1.2 and set into a pendant. Also, purchasing a three stone ring with stones as an upgrade for our 10 year anniversary, 3 years later.

Would like some opinions on the stones I have on hold:

I will be placing the stones in a platinum setting similar to Whiteflash's Butterflies (with a six prong center and three prong sides). My ring size is approx. a 6.25. I'll be pairing the three stone with a .55 ct Dream band (that I already own).

My budget for everything is 35k and right now it's coming in lower than that. I told my husband it's good negotiating skills for some new studs in a few years. ;) I prefer to work only with BGD.

Thoughts? Thanks so much for your help!

Okay, I looked back at the other thread and I see you have chosen stones in between the sizes of sides stones on two rings shown. I think that sounds good! I find it very hard to decide on side stone size myself!

I just see no reason to pay for H sides with an I color center. If I were going with two colors of diamonds, I'd do the center stone one grade higher than the sides because smaller stones tend to show less color than large ones. But I would try to have them all the same.

Yes, I have to agree with DS here. My smaller side Is do look slightly whiter than my center stone I and the larger stone has faint fluorescence and was appraised as a very high I. I think you'd be more than fine with Is (maybe lower?) unless it's a case of the Hs being a perfect match and a good price. I do sometimes notice the color difference with my side stones and I'm not sure I would have liked any higher. It all depends on your color sensitivity, though. Mine is off the charts.:)

I think this will be an amazing ring! I'm excited to see how the .57/58s turn out!

I loved seeing your ring, SK! It is really gorgeous and really helps to see a center stone close in size to mine with different size side stones! It was so good you saw luvemypug's post and could show her your ring!

The stone that I am having recut is an I and it has never bothered me color wise. Is there really that much difference between an H and an I? These were the sides that BGD suggested for me.

Yes, I really liked the ratio after seeing Siamese Kitty's ring!

Hi Luvmypug,
I think the sizes and your ratio sound just perfect. Your center stone is bigger than mine, which sounds fabulous. I have a 3 stone AVR on my size 5 finger. My stones are a 2.02 center G color(8mm) and the sides are .56 and .59 ct and H and I color. I had wanted slightly smaller sides, but with AVRs, I couldnt be too picky- you grab them when available! I am very happy with it.

As for color, even though I am color sensitive, I rarely see a difference in the color among all of the stones. I'd guess once in a while I spot the tint in one of the side stones, but it doesnt happen enough to bug me at all. My Vatche setting is plat also and very similar to the Butterflies setting.

I'm having trouble posting my link. :doh:I'll try in a separate post so you can see pics of different angles.

Thanks, lawmallama for the ring pics! It sounds like the ratio I am going with will be perfect!
