I currently have a 2.7 RB with 2 pears on the side. However, I want to upgrade to a 3.5-3.8 ct diamond- either round or cushion. I wanted to do a halo, but after reading comments here and thinking about it, I think that a halo with that big of a diamond might be overkill (esp since I will be wearing it everyday).

So- I still like the pave, and I do like a little "bling"- I think just going to a solitaire from a 3-stone ring might bore me. So- I want something a little "extra" but not halo.

I like this setting from Leon Mege- I don''t have to wear a wedding ring (in fact I don''t wear one now).

What stone do you like better with this setting- round or cushion. I like a cushion that is more square-ish in nature with a L/W ratio of less than 1.1- preferably 1.05.

Also- if anyone actually has these settings or has gone to see Leon and has seen this setting in person, what was your impression?

Thanks for your input!!

I think that setting looks gorgeous with both shapes, it''s just up to you which shape stone you want. Rounds are classic and you can''t beat the spread, I love cushions but you''re most likely going to have to find a 4+ carat cushion that will look like a 3-3.5 carat round. I love, love cushions though too, either would be fab IMO.

Thanks mrssalvo! Really- there''s that much "shrinkage" to a cushion? I might have to think this one over!

depends, some are cut more shallow so you don''t loose as much spread, but in general they usually don''t face up as large as an equal carat weight round. If your going for pure size, IMO a round is the way to go. amazon has a chart that is pretty accurate when it comes to the different cuts and their sizes. print out the chart in this thread and that will give you a little bit of the idea...

I agree w/ having a halo being a little over the top. I just upgraded to a 3.67 RB and for now she''s resting on a plain tiffany 6-prong setting.
I love the 2 LM''s you linked and I was going to recommend one similar before I saw those so I''m on the same page as you.
W/ my stone, I want to change it to a slightly more attractive plain band, maybe LM''s simple double prong setting and I''d love some delicate pave on top of the band.
I also do not wear a wedding band, but for fun and because the stone is so large, I want to keep the band very thin and single so I can stack fun eternity bands w/ it for a change sometimes.
W/ a stone that size I hesitate to wear it on some travels or to some places like Disney or similar. So collecting some pretty and /or colorful eternity bands to stack w/ it gives me the option of not wearing the big stone adn just wearing a band or 2. . . or 3

I''d like a very thin delicate diamond eternity band, a sapphire/diamond one and a pink sapphinre/diamond one. I also love those French cut bands that somone posts here from time to time

Ringabling-
Your diamond is gorgeous! Where did you purchase it and how long did it take for you to find it? Did you buy it sight unseen? I was going to do the cushion with ERD and trust Mark to do the work since I am in CA (Orange County) but since I am also thinking of round- it seems like it is less worrisome to buy it online since there are so many ways to evaluate the stone.

thank you!
I bought it at a local B&M store. We have a local jeweler that we buy from a lot and although they tend to be a little overpriced, DH knows how to get them down to where he likes to be

Since we shop there a lot, I wanted to give them the opportuity, even it meant that''s all they got - an opportunity.
I was hoping DH would buy the 3.12 from WF I had reserved but he wanted to do it on the spot and I think he''s a little wary of buying w/o seeing it yada yada yada.
I''d definitely buy online though if I could.
My jeweler came though for me. It''s not ''perfect'' by most standards - not an H&A or D, E,or F color, but it''s an excellent cut and sparkles like mad!
here''s a better photo, but it doesn''t show the "temporary" setting - I have a thread in SMtR that probably shows the setting.

I typically wouldn''t choose a round over a cushion, but for that setting I really prefer the round. (With a gemstone, though, I wouldn''t go with the round in that setting). Just get whatever shape you prefer... both are great choices.

To me, the cushion looks very cool, but almost like a cell is splitting. It''s like, if you wait 2,000 years it will split into two rings.

Also, if you''re going to wear a band with that setting, it may look a little odd given the angles.
