Hi! I am looking for an oval engagement ring. My girlfriend wants a platinum setting (solitaire) no added diamonds, very simple, with an oval diamond. Her ring size is 5.25-5.5 and was hoping to get her something 1 carat or greater (but not too big).

I've been looking at the Elyque Ovals by AV. I have budgeted around $6-8Kish, and I have been looking at the following diamonds and wanted to get your thoughts, or whether you would recommend something else, or other considerations.

1.2 F VS2. I don't think the inclusion will be visible. I would say go for size, but that SI1 will have visible inclusions I bet.

I would also go for size. Talk to Rhino and ask him if the 1.3 is eye-clean. Ask him to do a video for you comparing your top
two. He can talk you through them. They are all the same faceting pattern and all AGS000 (I didnt look but I'm assuming...
which could be bad). In other words, they are all nice stones and there really is not much for us to comment on except the
4Cs. Rhino would be your best help.

Thanks guys - tyty333 - why is that bad? Sorry bit of a noob =)

I think she meant couldn't be bad!

Ah gotcha. thank you very much!

It could be bad that I'm assuming they are all AGS000 without checking to be sure.

Just out of interest, do Elyque ovals face up smaller?

I ran the first set of numbers in the diamdb tool I used when researching my oval and it flags up as inadequate size and really high depth (see below)

I'm guessing it's because of how it's cut to increase brilliance, but if size matters to you at all then you definitely should go for a larger carat size than if it was a normal brilliant cut oval.

of the 4 to elyque ovals to choose from, I favor the 1.3 f color si OR 1.2 f color vs.

because they are both the most sizable and are within the colorless range.

from the rotating clip, to my eyes, its not a bad si. it will likely be eye clean. It depends on how clarity sensitive you are...in the mind...

@lili87 ,
The thing to keep in mind is that any AGS Ideal has passed without deduction a gauntlet of testing including "spread'.

Whatever simplistic method is being used here to determine the stone is 'too deep', is not in any way comparable to the highly advanced AGS light performance grading system.

Will you find ovals with bigger spread? Most definitely. But they are also likely to have deficits in some performance aspect or aspects.
