My nephew is on a budget and asked me what I think about this. It is a .80 carat and set in platinum. Any opinions based on these pictures? Asking price is 1000. It is not certified but we louped it and it seems really clean.image_1618.jpg

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Honestly, I'm not usually a huge marquis fan and I think this ring is really lovely....especially for the price. There is something so classic and elegant about the design and I really like the fatness of the marquis. I've seen a lot of men do much worse for a much higher price.

are these vendor photos or his own? has he seen this in person??

I went with him and I am posing for the pic. I just didn't know what to advise him bc Idk much about marquise.

hmm. Some of those pics look to have carbon inclusions. is that true or just a photo. If its true did you see them with the naked eye?

the tips of the stone seem slightly dead from the photos, is that what you saw in real life? Or did it sparkle though out?

Also did she ask for a marquise or is he trying to get the most bang for his buck being that his budget is limited? I quite like the design of this ring a lot, picked one up recently myself, but i just am not sure about the quality of the marquise based on just those pics, but you saw it in person so you would know best

She actually does want either a marquise or a princess. I didn't see black carbon spots or major inclusions in the center. The pictures are very accurate as to the sparkle and yes, the tips were my concern, too, like there seemed to be a lot of something going on in one end in particular. But as to white carbon inclusions,

Is he on a tight timeline?
Ebay has nice MQs at nice sizes from time to time. I used to have a bunch saved, i purchased one too. You can find nice one but you have to wait until they pop up

He is just starting to look and thought this was a good deal.

It is a really nice price. I am just not sure about the tips. Dead tips can really bother the wearer after a while. I didn't see it in person though, so you'd be the best judge of that.

a lot of places would charge more for just the platinum in the setting!

It's pretty, elegant and a great price.

Very pretty! Great price! Is there a return period so he could have it checked out?

I like the setting and the cut of the diamond- not a very visible bow-tie. I wonder if that is an older cut?

I think it's a pretty stone and ring at a fantastic price!

I really like it, especially for the price!

I think its a great price and the stone looks pretty decent to me. Taking price into consideration I think its pretty sweet!

I'm inclined to say "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." I've been keeping an eye out for decent but not pricey ones on eBay for a niece who wants a marquise for a jewelry project she has in mind. My impression is that the price of these has also climbed in recent months.
Pre-owned ones in the lower price category are most likely to be (a) in yellow gold, which doesn't matter for my niece's purposes, but would mean the additional cost of a new mounting for those who'd like one of the white metals that are more popular nowadays, and (b) badly proportioned, look like frozen spit, and/or have obvious inclusions, disturbingly prominent bow ties.

So although the tips of this one don't appear lively, I too think its sweet pluses appreciably outweigh that, especially in light of what appears to be the budget target.

P.S. Mind-boggling as it seems to me, FinerDiamond has this sad, .83 ct one listed at $999.99 -- although they are open to offers!
