Opinion on diamonds for studs

Not really, but both of my stones have GIA certificates, so they should be fine.

Is it important to get the idealscope images if the propositions look good on the report?

To tell the truth, I hadn’t had the possibilities, to get the idealscope, so I decided according HCA. I know, it is a rejection tool, not a selection tool, but this time i hadn’t had other possibilities, because my husband picked up the ready made studs for me, and he had no clue.

If you have the possibility, of course try to get the idealscope images. Rajul has only an ASET scope, which I gave him. I hope, he still has it.

Yes. IS images will tell you more about light performance than mere proportion numbers.

If they have access to an ASET, even better than IS

Thank you dkata. I will check it out. Do you know where the jewelers in Dubai are getting their diamonds from?

The vast majority of dealers down here carry very limited physical inventory (which usually consists of poorly cut IGI certified diamonds) and have access to the same virtual inventory through RapNet. Often you will find that when looking for a diamond with specific characteristics, you will be offered the same one over and over again once you walk from one shop to another. There are a few who have more stock, usually those are the wholesalers like Star Gems (they are also in MoE), but the selection is still quite limited. That said, any jeweller will be able to bring in diamonds that match your requirements, mostly they source them from India but sometimes also from Antwerp or Hong Kong. The issue here is that you will be required to leave a non-refundable deposit (usually 10%) without seeing the diamond in person, which is risky. You can minimise the risk by going for a higher clarity grade which will guarantee that the stone is eye clean, meticulously examining the proportions on the report and running the numbers through HCA. Of course an IS image would be able to tell you much more, but your chances to get a beautiful stone will still be very high.

Btw, have there been any developments with a replacement of an E/VS?

Just to clarify: I never ever had to pay any deposits, let alone non refundable. I communicated with my jeweler only by messaging, he sourced the stones, set them for me, and my husband picked up the ready made item. He paid the item only after inspection.
I’m sorry, if you made bad experiences in some other shops.

@dkata And you are right to expect no less from a jeweler who you have a long and well established relationship with. But you also don’t know if he had those stones in own stock or they were available elsewhere in Dubai or he had them shipped in. Like I said it’s in the latter case that one will be expected to leave a deposit - especially if that one is someone walking into the store for the first time. =)2

It’s interesting to compare them to the HCA scores. Those scores are, from top left clockwise: 1.4, 5.4, 3.7, 5. Pretty consistent, I think. And by the way, all four diamonds are GIA Triple X!

They said right now that’s what they have:( I told them to get me the IS image so I can see. Should I consider mixing F/VS1 with E/VS1? Or just wait until I find the perfect set? Somehow I have a feeling that they will not be able to get me a perfect pair. Making to wonder if I should get one stone from one store and another stone from another store to get a perfect match.

Oh wow!!! This is very interesting! All triple X with different HCA score but IS image almost the same. This tells me that I need to see the IS image of the E/VS1 they are offering. May be the IS images might be the same?

Do you know where I can buy a IS or ASET scope? Any online shops that will ship to UAE?

Hi Sakura!
I wouldn't mix and match the F and E diamonds. The E diamond has a much bigger diameter and also lower halves are different so the patterns will be, too. I would recommend that you go to Gold & Diamond park on SZR, visit a few stores and see if they may have something in stock.

I wouldn't say the IS images are similar. All diamonds are fairly symmetrical, but the light performance differs a lot. The one with 1.4 HCA is consistently red, meaning the light return is maximised. The others have a lot of pale pink and show clear leakage under the table. You can see it from the variations in colour saturation between the different areas of the diamond. They will look dark in the centre, especially the 5.4 & 5 ones.
What I am saying is that you can expect a diamond to be a very good performer if it has an HCA score of <2. The chances that it won't are there, but they are very small. If you are not after a top cut stone with perfect symmetry, I think the HCA tool is enough. If you are after a top super ideal cut, you are highly unlikely to find it in Dubai anyway and should probably consider buying online. I have chosen a few diamonds based on their HCA scores alone and the IS images turned out to be great, although those diamonds would not be qualified as super ideals they were all gorgeous stones.

I got my IS and ASET from https://ideal-scope.com and they shipped to Dubai. I just thought perhaps you can message me on trip advisor? Im registered on TripAdvisor as Katya M..

Hi Katya

Thank you again for your reply. I tried looking for message option on TripAdvisor but couldn’t find it. What was the last place you reviewed? May be I can message you from there? My user name is sakuramickey
