Hi batjka,

I''ll be honest, I''m not loving these.

For starters, I would try and stick with at least Very Good symmetry and polish both.

On the second one, it''s too shallow with too large a table.

There are other things, but you get the picture.

If you haven''t already, I would recommend reading the tutorial section on here to get an idea of a well cut diamond, that''s THE most important thing.

Then try again!

Allright, thank you for the help. Read the tutorial. Went back to abazias.
]Found this one:
http://www.abazias.com/database/NewDiamondInfo.asp?stock=34747642

Is that any better? Some crucial information is missing on the website, but in general?

I''m looking for something arnd. one carat, G or H, VS1 or 2. My budget is 5,000.

Thank you again

If I were a shopper, I don''t have time to email them for all the reports on stones in which I''m interested.

From the PS search: Showing 1 to 25 of 92 All diamonds matched. Unlike ''in-house'', many of these diamonds are virtual listings. Read more...

Round shape, 0.95–1.1 cts, D–H color, IF–VS2 clarity, 58–62% depth, 53–59% table, $100–5000, GIA and AGS certified

Only 92 diamonds...each one listed about 4 times, that''s less than 25 stones. As you can see, slim pickins''....

Consider SI1 stones.

Aha. Just realized it's EGL Israel. The most disreputed major lab?

Anything 1ct+ H+ VS2+ <5K, will have something "wrong" with it. Girdle, fluoresence, lab report, Good finish, etc. You can try to weed through them, but it may be a frustrating endeavor.

Julie''s right, you need to lower one of the specs to get your price range. I lowered clarity, because to me, that''s the best way to go, you can see color easier. I''ve found a few for you, you need to ask on all if they are eyeclean, but they look like they could be. And let them know what eyeclean is to you, is it only what you see face up, or from all sides at any distance?

And this one is interesting, as it''s facing up larger than normal. I''m not sure if it''s just a mistake or what. If not, and it''s eyeclean, that would be a bargain...

If you mention PS, you will get a discount of 5% I believe.

The appraisers here have mentioned that EGL USA may be one color off, EGL Europe may be one color and one clarity, and EGL Israel to not be dependable at all.

As I mentioned before, probably there is something that caused the price to be lowered significantly.

The stone you picked has strong fluoresence. There is nothing wrong with that unless it causes a haziness, but that is the reason why it is cheap. Many happy customers of ERD, but I'd prefer to have it called in by Whiteflash (I like their photos.)

Whiteflash is great, but their prices are much higher than abizias or ERD.

Am I getting closer:

Without at least crown and pavillion angles, we can''t say much. IS images would be better.

I''m taking it your determined not to go below VS2? Because I found you the same size diamonds, for less. If they are eyeclean, why would you want to pay more for something you can''t see? Unless it is just a mind thing, which I understand.

And whiteflash provides certain services that I find valuable that the other guys don''t offer.

Both the last two stones have potential; get a copy of the reports.

It scores 1.9 TIC on the Cut Adviser. Ex Light Return, VG for Fire, Scintillation, and Spread. Definite potential to be a good performer.

It's a good start.

Next step is an Ideal Scope picture.

But I don't think Abazias supplies them. I'd probably send it to an independent appraiser to see if everything is everything...which might eat up any savings you may realize by going with the cheaper vendor.
