Hi guys,

There is one more thing that I would like you guys to clarify for me.

The basic outline of a diamond is formed by the bruting process.

As I understand the above: The bruting process is when two stones are rubbed against each other in a circular motion.
They would grind one another down until both have a round outline, or girdle.

Well, How are fancy shapes bruted? ex. hearts and pears.
How do cutters form the outline or girdle of fancy shapes?

As I learn more about diamonds and gemmology, I would try to post more difficult questions but for now I am afraid to waste your time with these mediocre questions.

Thanks again for answering my previous questions, I really appreciate your help

Kind Regards

The round stone spins and the fancy shape is held up against it and is rubbed away into the desired shape. This is very simplistic. The fancy is in a static position and manipulated to create the desirted outline while the other stone revolves.

Hope that helps.
