We finally decided on a stone from Jonathan early this week and made payment Wednesday morning. By Thursday, everything was ready to go and we received the diamond Friday by NOON (we are in northern Canada)!

We have some pretty amazing connections and the diamond was appraised within a few hours of getting off the plane. Everything was as stated and the appraiser was amazed at the excellent cut of the stone (we purchased a POH). Our replacement value came in at almost double what we paid for it.

The diamond is beautiful and does all we expected. Jonathan sure picks lovely stones.

Among the many things we were looking for, one of them was that it were an eye clean stone. We were willing to pay a number that Jonathan was aware of - yet he still offered up choices well under that amount and showed us a stone that fit the bill and was signficantly less than we were willing to spend. How many retailers would do that?

The character of this business is phenomenal and I will definitely encourage those looking for a great stone to consult with them. They deserve every penny they make and have gained every confidence of ours. We know where we will go if we decide to purchase any more diamonds in the future - but hopefully next time we will get to go in person.

Thanks again Jonathan and the GOG team. What a blessing you are!

congrates!!!!
but you do know we need pictures right? hand shots preferred :}

redeemed, that''s great that you got a diamond you love. Kudos!

But...Your comment that your diamond appraised for TWICE what you paid for it is a bit concerning. Appraisers are notorious for inflating appraisals. I dont know why they do it because if someone jacks up your appraisal price by double, it only means you''re going to pay double in insurance, if you do indeed get insurance on your ring. And depending on the type of insurance you get, you wont necessarily get that actual amount should anything happen to your ring. So, I would caution you by saying you might want to get an actual replacement value on that ring, rather than a price that''s doubled. It just doesn''t make sense. For perspective, my ering appraised by two separate independent appraisers for $6K over what we paid. And I know that that is a reasonable amount because the only stone I saw that compared to mine, was exactly at that extra $6K price. So I know that market value wise, my appraisal value will get me a replacement if need be.

Congratulations on your new stone! I also had the most excellent experience dealing with Jonathan. I can''t wait to see your ring!

In regard to insurance, I agree that you would not want to overpay for an inflated amount if insurance. You can always use the purchase price to insure it for, if you wish.

Thanks so much redeemed. It was such a pleasure to serve you and get to know you.

You are a special person and Lord willing our paths will cross again.

What timing with the appraiser eh?

surfgirl, it may be due to the Canadian cost/price standards that it was that much higher I think. Generally appraisals do generally run higher from what folks pay via the net.

Warm regards,

HI:

Cool! Look forward to pics galore....eh!!!!

cheers--Sharon

Thanks for the concern surf. I tend to be an overlycautious kind of girl which is why, in this case, we decided to turn things over to my mother (who is also in the jewellery industry). I have to say I had every confidence in Jonathan thanks to talking with him and his reputation around these forums, but my mother just HAD to have it done to feel comfortable so we indulged her.

She had an appraiser that is well experienced check things out on our behalf so we are comfortable with what she came up with. I am not sure if replacement value and appraisal equal the same amount - I am under the impression that they do. Regardless, we are satisfied with what we received. It will all be appraised again by another appraiser once the setting is completed and insurance will be based on that (personally, I dont get the need for all the appraisals but it comes with the package for us).

I am very much looking forward to being able to wear the diamond. It looks like it will be about a month for it all to be put together (I am getting the setting and band custom made) but I believe it is going to get wrapped up and under the tree so it will be a long wait before I get to take any pictures. You will all forget by then!

But I will try to remember to share the goods once I receive them. I think it will be lovely!

Thanks for being excited with me.

Glad you had a good experience. Do try and come back to post pics!

Did you find a setting?? I noticed you asking about my setting info here. I can''t wait to see pics!!!

Skippy, we ended up getting something made up. In the end, it will have the flavor of the Tiffany lucida with side trillions. Trillion sides, soft knife edge coming off the V that holds the trillions, thin shank (2-2.5mm). The band to go with it will be a thin channel set with princess cut diamonds. I think my husband agreed on a 2.5mm width on that as well. It should be lovely.

Anyhow, I will post pics when I get the rings. In the meantime, I have a baby to get ready for so the time will pass quickly I am sure.

Thanks again for being excited with me!

Redeemed, Hey, that is neat!!! I can't wait to see it; I hardly ever see rings w/trillions except mine. Gosh, I am excited to see it. My friend just got engaged w/a princess and she wants trillions too!

Congrats on the baby coming. I don't know if you know this but there is a thread for mommies to be here.

Sera, you POH sounds lovely!!!

Congratulations. I can''t wait to see it.
