On a bling ban - so resetting instead!

So I’m trying to be a good girl from now until Christmas because I have a lot of expenses towards the end of the year.

Which means I’m looking at resets rather than new purchases. Ok, Ok, I know. But it’s better than nothing, I’m trying to economise, I could be still buying a bunch of random gemstones that I don’t know what I’m going to do with!

So I’ve got two in the pipeline and another to be discussed with the jeweller.

Project 1: oval five stone that drives me INSANE because the ovals are so poorly matched (and poorly cut frankly).

Here is the offender.


Given the colour and clarity is good and I got a bargain price I’ve decided to reset this horror into a bezel setting to conceal the discrepancy between them and make a band. Something like this.


It also makes sense as I now have an alternative yellow gold option for my “mock” engagement ring when I can’t bear to mix metals.

Project 2: amazing sapphire - amazing side stones - can’t deal with them together as they are step and brilliant / cushion mixed. And I couldn’t get over the long, imperfectly placed prongs.


I’m changing the entire ring and going for brilliant cut sides something in this style - obviously not with the same side stones.

Ah ha, that is the question! I might reset my emerald. Or else I might buy another aquamarine to match my ring and set it as a pendant with the caddys top and bottom.

Thanks. I got it from Sri Lanka. It’s 5.13ct unheated and a nice blue - it’s referenced as cornflower but I always think of cornflower as being lighter than this colour. The only downside is it’s a bit deep in the cut so not a great face up.

So finally picked them up. And here is the photo show!

In the bezel setting it’s now impossible to tell that the diamonds are slightly different shapes and sizes. It also goes with my other gold rings, earrings and watch much better so I think I will get a lot more wear out if it.

And the sapphire.

You can’t really tell from the photos but the sapphire looks so much lighter and clearer in this more open setting. The setting itself is way lighter and less chunky and I think I will wear it much more often. It also fits better with my other sapphire ring and I can now wear them together too - on different hands.

BUT I still have a feeling this isn’t it’s last dress. Although I love being able to wear it on my left hand with my eternity band, I feel at some point in its life it will go back to being north south with a pair of cushions next to it!

Thanks. I wore it today and it really goes well with all my other yellow gold bits and bobs. I never used to be a bezel person but I’m getting really into those clean lines.

I’m having some cufflinks and a lapel pin made for my husband. And some stud earrings for my daughters.

I also have a couple of very small elongated cushion sapphires which I want to get set for my daughters - not for now but when they are older.

I really love the color on your sapphire. The whole ring is lovely. I have been thinking of resetting one I have and tweaking the cut, to something similar, but no pave on the band.

I actually like the first sapphire setting a lot. What are the dimensions of your center?

Ok so I thought this wouldn’t be the last of this thread…..

I liked the setting for the sapphire. I liked the sapphire. But I just couldn’t get comfortable with them together for some reason. I missed the Cadillac sides.

SO……

I used this setting for the new colour change purple - and brought back the caddys! But this time I went for white gold and a more curvy and light setting. THIS is what it should have looked like the first time. Third time luck I hope.
