Hi, I am back on the diamond search. Was wondering what you think of this stone. Old European cut certed by EGL (I know GIA is better) anyway, Is stated it was a F color so I figured it can't be any worse than an I color, si2 (100% eye clean according to its owner) the depth is 62.2%, table is 55%, crown is 16.9 %, pavilion is 41.8% small culet. It has been listed for a long time so I am concerned that there must be something not right with it. since you guys are the experts I am counting on your feedback. Thanks

IMHO - eye clean also has to mean 'mind clean'. What are you comfortable with clarity-wise? If it's the OEC I think it is, it's a beautiful stone, but I would ask is it eye-clean at 2-3 inches, 4-8 inches, normal viewing distance? All of the above?

Also - for any old cut stone, I think you have to see it in person anyway because they all perform/look differently.

ETA: You couldn't be in better hands than that seller!

Most old cuts have EGL certs because GIA didn't until recently have an old cut category.

I wouldn't be too concerned with the F color. It might be 1 or 2 grades soft but that is still plenty white. Besides old cuts tend to high color more then MRB's.

Really you need to post pictures so we can see it. Old cuts are similar to cushions that it helps to have the numbers on paper, but really you need to see it.

I was reading up on old cuts. Some of the info suggested that the girdles could chip more easily. Not sure if this is true. I really like the chunky facets and the fact that the color is pretty good, and the culet is very small has be drawn to this stone. I like the old cuts but not the large culets and the warm color you see with the older stones. This is the first one that that has everything I am looking for. But as you both said I need to see it. I just wanted to get some input from everyone. Thanks

Do you have photos?

There are photos on their website but I don't know how to get them to this website.

Dreamer, I found this diamond when I was looking at one of your postings. If that helps. Not sure if she is holding it for me So I don't want to give to much info at this time. I have an email out to her ,but I haven't heard back yet.

Is this it?? Sorry it's soooo big. To OP: Do you want me to add a link to the stone?

I like the shape. Looks like a nice stone.

if that is the OEC in question I realy like it. Beautiful pattern.

OK I found it. Worth seeing in person. It is a later make rather than the more classic OEC bubbly patterning that people often prefer. The proportions are quite similar to an MRB in terms of table, crown height, but the lower halves are shorter (among a collection of other differences) which gives it that old cut look. So that is probably why its still for sale for a while -- its not the most popular flavour. People are also afraid of SI2 clarity. There is some potential that there will be some leakage under the inner periphery of the table on tilt angles because the table is larger, but the lower halves are long which may be enough to compensate. AND that is only something real cut nuts would notice anyways. I don't see any red flags and I think its very pretty!

Old cut girdles can be more prone to chip if the girdle is knife edge. You can ask about that and have the girdle faceted if you are concerned.

I was just browsing on that website and when you posted the stats I knew exactly which diamond it was! No worries-- Im looking for earings. ;) The diamond looks so high color for an OEC and really eye clean, except for you can see the feather off to the side. The price seems nice for the size too! There's something about it that I like in the video and I really love the sellers. I'm not an expert like Dreamer or SB621 though. ;)

If this is the stone, when I've worked with that seller, it's who has emailed and/or contacted them about it first. Hope that helps! 8)

Hi All, Thanks for the input. Yes that is the stone and thanks for pic. I have been in touch with them I think I need to see it in person. I am waiting to hear back from her. Hopefully tomorrow.

I'm excited for you! Please keep us updated.

Looks like a pretty stone! Looking forward to hearing what you think.

I have this stone on my secret Ring Pinboard. It's just to die for! I'm another one of those that prefers a smaller culet, higher color, and larger table in the OEC's, and I was drawn to this one immediately! I have it marked as one of my favorites, and I go watched that glittery video a few times a week! If I had the money right now, I'd buy it immediately! Good Luck :D

I was able to put this diamond on hold pending purchase, which I will do tomorrow. I hope it is as nice in person as in the videos. I am a bit concerned with the durability of an older stone. But as Dreamer said it may not be that old which to me is even better. Since this is a preloved stone is there anything I should be worried about. I have seen posts about stones becoming cloudy or seeing spots or lines that were not there before. If I end of keeping this stone I would hope it would be forever. But you never know. Should I stay with a vendor with trade up options. But then I wouldn't find the older cut style stones. What to do!!! What to do!!
Feel free to post the link since I am unable. Look forward to your thoughts,

I have one more question for the experts. Do these measurements 6.22 x 6.26 x 3.79 Face up will this diamond look like a 1.64

No, it will face up under a carat, approximately a .90 carat stone.

eta: I'm confused - are you referring to the stone in this thread? I found it and the mm are 7.67 x 7.27 x 4.65

That explains why its still there after all this time. Thank you

I just realized I posted the wrong measurements. I was looking at the .90 on the preloved section. You are right about the measurements of the stone I am looking to purchase.

Lovely stone!
And the company you are dealing with has a great customer service.

The EGL states the depth is 62.2% which means that the diamond should have a larger face up size than say a stone of the same carat weight, but 69% depth. I think it's going to face up nicely.

I can't wait to see it It's coming on Tuesday. I know it's a si2 but I am hoping that the inclusion that I can see in the photo will not be that obvious to me. I am turning 50 in a few days and all I want is a new diamond. I have been looking on and off for 5 years, always finding a reason not to. One day after a very long break from price scope I find a stone that may be the ONE!!! I love 1.5 size stone. It seemed just right, not to flashy, nice finger coverage. Something I can wear everyday. Always loved looking at the older cut stones. But I never liked the warmer colors that came with them. When I saw this one; it had the size I wanted the color and the price was within my reach. I know the stone I am looking at is a 1.6 but anything around a 1.5 is ideal to me. Thanks for all the input. Your right about the customer service they have answered all my questions even through the holiday. Sorry for posting the wrong measurements (I have a lot of post its) I was also looking at the .90 that Dreamer has listed at JBEG.

Very excited for you, Ashey! And excited to hear your take on this stone (and see your pics, if you're up for posting any!) I have a couple of their $5-10 K stones on my watch list, and that one was/is in my top three for the same reasons! There are a few other stones that I love the size/faceting of, but that I worry would just be tooo creamy. (My skin is very yellow and I feel like the lower colored diamonds blend into my skin and get lost. :/)

It should arrive tomorrow. I am concerned about the color as well, I am not a fan of creamy diamonds. It states it is F color but its EGL so it could be from a G to a J. Hopefully not.

The stone is not totally round, but it appears to face up similar to an MRB of similar weight, so that is pretty good for an old cut.

To clarify a small thing, the 0.90ct diamond at JBEG that you mentioned is not mine :)) My good friend is consigning it there and I posted about it in Pre-Loved on her behalf.

The durability is only a problem is the girdle is knife edge thin. You can ask Grace about that. Othwise, old cuts are as durable as new cuts in most respects. I am not sure where you have seen posts about diamond becoming cloudy over time or lines or spots developing, but in a natural diamond with no clarifty enhancement its appearance will not change like that over time. Its appearance will be stable barring the unlikely chance that an internal or surface reaching inclusion changes with impact from wear. That is a low probablity but one that an apprasier can advise you about, and something that you don't need to worry about if you insure your diamond. JBEG have a trade up policy, too, so you can see if there will honour that. But, over time you may be better off just reselling your stone on consignment through JBEG or another vendor in future if you wanted to change or upgrade. You are never really "stuck", especially if you buy the diamond for below full retail price. There are vendors of old cuts who offer trade ups though if its important to you.

Yay!!! It's tuesday :naughty:
Your stone will arrive today... Can't wait to see pics.
