Hey all,

I've done more research on ovals this past month than I've done on anything else in years. I'd like to purchase a ~ 2 ct. oval for my gf. I've looked up all the recommended colors, clarity, etc. and have factored that into my budget of about 15k.

What are your thoughts on the following stone? I plan to purchase a stone and once I see it in person, have my jeweler create a setting for me. Each of these stones has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.

As an aside, I've been using rarecarat as a search tool. It's pointed me to the exact same stones at other retailers that blue nile has in inventory for ~1.5 - 2k less.

Thank you!!

Anywhere else I should consider looking? Also, I work on the block of the diamond district. Anybody with experience transacting there versus online and what's been your experience?

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to Pricescope!
As a rule- there is no gemologically accepted manner of scoring a diamonds cut- other than GIA ( only rounds) or AGSL ( does grade the cut of ovals, however, it's not widely accepted).
There are branded stones on the market- and taste varies. Not everyone agrees what is "best"
Looking in person can help you in this- ovals are more difficult to judge online

You can request an ASET image. Its only a small piece of the puzzle but sometimes gives you a small amount of info. Are there other
sites that have this stone that show the stone spinning? If so, please post the links.

the only bummer about buying at any local diamond district is having to pay sales tax ;)

I concur with @tyty333 - you will need an ASET imagine to determine whether there is good light return.

I agree with tyty- an ASET gives a small amount of info. It’s a piece of the puzzle but without visual reference it’s by no means conclusive.

About sales tax: as it stands now, someone who buys in one state and has it shipped to another won’t have to pay sales tax to the merchant although they may be bound to pay it themselves in their home state.

I like the one you’ve chosen so far.

Enchanted diamonds is in New York btw. Maybe you could view some diamonds before buying. They have a few nice looking ones listed and might be willing to bring them in.

I had my jeweler peruse the links and his concern was the strong blue fluorescence. Should it be as much of an issue if at all in a G?

knandez17- if you get an ASET image, how is that going to help?
I'm not asking to be difficult- but rather to point out that ASET is no "magic pill" to tell you if an oval is well cut.
Folks here that have looked at a lot of diamonds and corresponding ASET images may be able to give you an idea what they like based on ASET images.
I can tell you from many years experience- tastes vary. Even to the extent of the profile.
Some like longer, others prefer fatter- top say nothing of light performance.

If you have a jeweler- can he show you stones?

Hey @Rockdiamond , I've shown a few of my jewelers price wise what I've found online for what I'm looking for and many of them have said that they can't compete. I will be meeting with another one next week who will line a few up for me to see in person.

Regarding the ASET, completely understand. I still would like to get peoples' opinions on what they like / dislike in the ASET.
