I never thought I would be posting this, but I am so excited and I don''t have many outlets given the circumstances. WE ARE ELOPING!!

FI and I are eloping to be married at City Hall in San Francisco on October 28th, 2009.

This is one of the most exciting things I have ever done, and FI agrees with it completely. Both of us have been really stressed out trying to plan a wedding for this Spring when so much was up in the air about our marriage rights in CA after the election on Nov. 4th, in which that right may be revoked. It''s a scary feeling, and one I in particular have become increasingly depressed [and admittedly a little angry] about in the last few weeks. I never thought I would feel this strongly about it, but there I was upset and crying too much for my own personal comfort.

Right now our plans are a complete secret from everyone. We booked appointments to get a marriage license in City Hall with a Civil Ceremony following directly after. We are really lucky because we got the LAST marriage license appointment available that day, as well as one of the last ceremony spots. Due to increasing demands for marriage licenses and ceremonies right now [geez, I wonder why?

] our spots are later than the usual times they''re open, which is sort of neat. We also booked flights! I got a call last week that my dress has come in and FI already has hers, so we will bring them and wear them for the ceremony, which I am happy about.

It does feel sort of insane right now, especially with it being a secret, but it is absolutely the right thing to do for us. Not telling our families is going to be hard, but we will share the news with them and a few close friends after the election. That way our parents and siblings will not be unnecessarily sad for us if the marriage ban passes, and know that everything in our own circumstances has been taken care of. We plan to have a huge, perfect vow renewal and proper reception sometime in the future when we can really afford to do it right, whether that be in 10 years or in 20... who knows, and we won''t have to worry about the legality of it at that time [although I certainly HOPE that in 10 or 20 years it will be legal and uncontested, finally

].

I know our entire life tends to be a political issue for people, but right now it just feels like we''re *people*, doing the best we can to do the right thing for *us* during a really rough and complicated time. We just want to feel like we have a little bit of control over what happens to us and our own future instead of standing by feeling helpless and scared waiting for other people to make that decision for us. It''s a cr*ppy feeling, for sure. I am beyond excited to be fortunate enough to have the means to seize the day and take matters into our own hands.

Oh Wishfulthinking, that is amazing news. I wish all the best for both you and your FI. Also, once you are married, I don''t see how the courts can throw out your marriage. It''s not like what happened in SF before since CA law and the Supreme Court says that marriage between two woman are legal. Just because the law changes (I hope not, vote no on Prop 8), that doesn''t negate the fact that your marriage is valid when you get married.

Big Congrats to you and your plan sounds so great!!

My cousin Larry married his FI Todd on a cliff by the water in Carmel on October 5th. My Man of Honor's gf did the ceremony. It was so great to see their 'official' and still legal marriage certificate from the County Clerk. It was such a happy wonderful ceremony. I really hope theirs will endure November as well.

I'm glad I am a resident of CA. So I can have some input at least!

Wishful - Have you two thought of doing a domestic partnership here as well? Not sure if you have that in your state.

YAY! Congrats to you, what an extremely happy time in your lives! Have you seen mia1181''s elopement thread? She eloped in San Fransisco as well, and took some amazing shots at the beach afterward. I think this would a great way to commemorate your wedding. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/our-elopement-story-pro-pics.97046/ If you haven''t seen the thread yet, its beautiful and will get you very excited!!

I''m so happy for you and your FI. This is thrilling news

Oh, congratulations, I am so happy for you! SF City Hall is beautiful, you will have a wonderful ceremony there. Of course, that''s my hometown so I''m a litte biased. I hope CA does the right thing voting down Prop 8; I for one will be doing my part.

Congrats girl! Based on your post about the election and such, you mean Oct 28, 2008 right?

That rocks!!! My hubby and I got married in SF (but overlooking the bay) and City Hall there is just GORGEOUS! Make sure you bring pictures back!

Yay!!! That''s great, and I really hope people come to their senses about this.

Congratulations, Wishful! After seeing Mia''s pics, I totally believe that a SF civil ceremony is the world''s most perfect wedding.

I was talking to a colleague yesterday who read the anti-miscegenation laws to his students and they were appalled and disgusted. I personally do not think it will take 10 or 20 years before the same cultural shift happens with same sex marriage.

I am sorry that you have to experience your personal life politically, but I am terribly happy for you and your fiancee that you will be able to marry and spend the rest of your lives together.

Wishful, I can''t being to tell you how happy I am for you both. This is wonderful news.

I wish I could be there with you, as we only live one hour away. If I didn''t have to watch my grandson, you bet we would be there to celebrate with you. I will be thinking of you.

Lots of love and CONGRATULATIONS.
