Hello :wavey:

I am searching for a OEC on a budget.

This one is charming, but I am a bit concerned about the asymmetric faceting pattern.

- Please give me your feedback: is this a keeper, or would you keep searching?

- $ 9,500: What do you think of the price?

- SI2, color M (if you have M colored stones, please comment on how you like the color. I currently have a G)

Please see the 2 videos:

Thanks for your time!!

Such a beautiful stone! I think you pick a very pretty one. To me the faceting is very crisp and chunky. I love the clearly defined flower pattern under the table.I'm surprised that the table is 55% and depth is 59.7%.

Have you seen the 2.17 L in the sneak peak? I think it's a very pretty stone also and the table is smaller.

Ahhh yes! I love the symmetric faceting pattern of the 2.17 L, but it was snatched up right away. I hope the buyer post pics here on PS so that we can all enjoy that beauty. =)

Thank you Phale!

The faceting of the 2.17 is exactly what I love and am looking for. Hope the buyer will post pics so we all can enjoy some more.

Regarding color, I think it's a matter of personal preference. My OEC is a L GIA and I have a love-hate relationship with the color. Under low lighting, I absolutely love it. It's warm, romantic, and very sparkly. I love it under direct sunlight too. But I cant stand the tint in my car.

I hope the experts will give their opinions on this stone for you.

Hey Phale - there must be a thing about OECs and cars, I have two decent sized old cuts, a J and an L and both bug the absolute bejeepers out of me in the car of all places the most colourwise. And under some shop lighting they take on their full body tint all the rest of the time they look fine.

You probably need to get it and look at the colour and see if it bugs you or if you can live with it. It will never look like a G coloured stone.

Anyway, I think it is a beautiful stone and it's a great price - difficult to find clean Si2s that size. It looks like it has big fat arrows in it.

Thanks Arkieb1!

I am ok with the warm color.

My reservation is the cut. I keep going back and comparing it to the 2.17 L that slipped away from me =(

This should be in Rocky Talky. That is the correct forum to discuss diamond selection and tons more people will see it there, Click "report concern" and have the thread moved.

Just wanted to add that my AVR is ideal cut and I color and still looks bad in the car because of the tinted glass. It just takes on the tint in the car.

I agree facet pattern is **really pretty and crisp!!!! However that table is killing me and would be a no go for me. Old cuts are personal preference though so I personally wouldn't go over 52%.

It looks very nice and would be a stone that I'd recommend seeing in person. But if you already have reservations and feeling like it won't compare to "the one that got away," it may end up not being "mind-clean" for you in terms of cut. It may always bother you. In that case, it's better to keep looking.

The price seems pretty great though. As Arkieb said, it's not easy to find good-looking Si2 OECs over 2cts.

The facet pattern is lovely...I really like it. That much finger coverage for $9,500 (8.5mm) is great IMO.

Thank you Arkieb1, Phale, Diamondseeker, Ariel144, SB621, and GemFever!!

Thanks for pointing out the large table of 55%. Do you think that affects the performance?

The general theory is that smaller tables + higher crowns = more fiery OECs. There is also an aesthetic to smaller-tabled OECs: a small table can be one of the key characteristics of old cuts (as well as an open culet, chunky facets, and "pouffy" (tall) crown). But it doesn't have to be! The beauty of old cuts is that no two are the same and sometimes the tiniest change in the degree of the facets can make a big difference. In other words, sometimes the numbers are unusual but they just "work" together. In those cases it's best to see a stone in person and see how your eyes perceive it and how you like it's flavor.

I like the faceting and performance of this stone. I don't see the table size as necessarily a problem... my stone has a large table and no obstruction issues... but you would want to check the light return in the center of the stone in person, or maybe get another video in a different light. The size (spread) is lovely. I think the price is quite good for that size. I would definitely try to see this stone in person, you would have to be okay with how the color looks to you, but M's can be extremely pretty color-wise. This stone looks nice to me!

Thanks Gemfever & LightBright!

The stone is ~30 mins from where I live, so I hope to see it in person next week =)

I've got a fat arrowed transitional with a table that you can drive a bus into and it's a pretty stone, so don't let that put you off. I'd be making sure it is eyeclean and if the contrast pattern, those darks arrows go off and on enough or is it slightly dark too much of the time and if that bothers you. Mine has very noticeable fat arrows and the contrast pattern in it bugs me 5+% of the time, but I live with it because of the insane chunky fire it has. Ask Grace or Erica whoever is showing it to you to bring along a high crown small tabled OEC as well maybe so you can compare and see which flavour as the others have said you like better.

Arkie has a good point, if you can pick a few other stones from the JbEG offerings to look at alongside this one, that would be best. Ask for help identifying other candidates in your price range, and look at their site for any others you see that you like. This stone has the proportions of a Transitional and you should be sure you like the look. Review alongside maybe a classic OEC (as previously suggested) and maybe a whiter stone (J/K/L) to see how you like the color. I have a Transitional, but it is a markedly different look than an OEC, and you should be sure you fall in love with it. Personally, I really like this stone (the size, the faceting, etc.) but seeing it in person with comparison stones is important. Keep us posted!

it looks lovely from the vids and is a great price.

definitely have a look in person, i'd be checking that the facets under the table are on/off/on/off and not completely light or completely dark, and since it has a large tablet check you arn't missing colored light return.

I have a 3.5carat GIA M and would suggest that you look at the stone in lots of different lighting conditions. preferably buy it with a return period so you can really decide if you like the color. although i would think that for that price you'd be able to sell it without too much loss.

mine is a gorgeous white a lot of the time but can also look quite tinted. its not everyones cup of tea
