OEC experts, please help evaluate the cut on this OEC

The jeweler knows old cuts very well, but is not independent, of course. I've been trying to get an appointment with a local independent appraiser, but haven't found one with availability before the return period ends yet. If I can't find one soon, I might resort to sending it to one of the reputable PS appraisers who aren't local. I still need to figure out if a reduction in price would change my opinion about it.

Kim what about that 9mm 3.2cpendant on eBay. Have you seen it? It's 19k I think, but has make an offer on it. I imagine they'd sell it for 18k. It looks lovely cut wise and is a purported M VS and looks about that from the pics.

I hear you re obstruction being more evident in photos. I've seen that on a few of my OECs too. The inclusion pic you posted looks pretty good patten wise. Those bezel pics you posted tho don't do the stone any favors.

In the end it's your eye that has to be pleased.

Not Kim, of course, but I believe there was a discussion where another Pricescoper (Madelise?) saw that diamond pendant in person. She thought the color was more like "O/P."

Kim you need an independent appraiser's opinion. If the jeweler is the one I am thining if, I have noticed from anecdotes in the past that he is often way "off" in color and clarity estimates from reputed appraisers. If the "true" color or clarity matters then you need an opinion from a professional asap.

The cut looks nice to me. A classic OEC. Like ForteKitty said, these old cuts usually show obstruction when you really look for it. The camera lese causes it. That is different that leakage, which is the type of cut issue that makes a stone benefit from a more open mount -- so that you see light through the stone not dark. I am of the opinion this stone would look better in a more open mount. How open, I don't know, it would take experimentation.

I had to search up my exact statement, and pulled it up.
It's listed as an M-N, but it's not certed. IMHO, from an IRL perspective, it's like an EGL M-N/GIA O-P. Similar to the 4.09 O-P I saw with JbEG. Same amount of tint. But then again, my views of an M are kind of skewed since mine has fluorescence. It's not too yellow at all, it's a nice warm tint, still registers as "white" in my eyes, but more ivory-ish.

I was careful to say that I am biased since I haven't seen an M without fluorescence. :wink2:

In the original post, the first, third and fourth photo look very, very tinted. The one I saw was not that tinted.

You can compare the color with the color of the platinum setting, and with my bottom of my ring's shank, which is now un-rhodium plated WG :P

Just to clarify. I would never go on color judgement from what I stated. I am far from a pro! ;)

But Kim, please go to an independent appraiser, ASAP. That's too much money to be "wasting" if you don't know it's color/clarity specs. You can't be sure if you got a deal until you confirm the details! Either way, I'm happy that you've moved forward from stagnant on your search for your stone.
