I just had a great appraisal done with Robert Bunda, but I think I'd like to go the techier route with my new stone. Can anybody recommend an appraiser with either ASET equipment, or a lot of experience with old cuts, or ideally both in NYC?

If you click on the tab for "Resources" at the top and then "Appraisers" you will be able to search by location. Here are a few in your area with details about what they can offer:

We also Specialize in detecting treatments such as laser drilling, fracture filling, synthetics, on both diamonds and colored stones. Asian art and antiques are also a specialty."

Travis Lejman NY, NY

Circe, I'm sure you know this, but you can always send a stone to be appraised if you can't find what you are looking for locally.

Smokey, awesome - thanks! I'd completely forgotten the list included that info. Perfect!

(And, if anybody has used Travis Lejman and wants to chime in on the experience ... ;-) )

Slg, I know ... but I'm weirdly paranoid about shipping pricey items. I know that statistically, I'm probably likelier to be mugged while wearing the thing, but I try to use local resources if and when I can. Like a gemologically oriented locavore?
