OK so he feels the latest DXA cannot be right as the improvement is too great for not being on an anabolic bone med and just being on estradiol. Now he wants me to go to him in office so he can repeat the DXA despite it being a different machine. So we can evaluate what is happening. Looks like I didn't get the improvement we hoped and thought. And of course this is all out of pocket as no way will my insurance cover 2 DXAs in a month or even 6 months. At this point the cost doesn't matter but the radiation is a concern. All the mammograms, DXAs etc I am getting is really accumulating the radiation. Sorry for the down post but this is how I am feeling at the moment. I will just keep repeating to myself one day at a time and one hour at a time when that is too overwhelming. Thanks for listening.

Hi to everyone else. Hope the week is going well.

The endocrinologist who is the bone specialist is planning to call my rheumatologist and discuss the discrepancy with the DXAs and he also wants me to repeat the DXA with him so I will probably do that despite feeling it is too many DXAs too close together. I do want to get an accurate picture of what is happening but I also am not sure I can trust the DXAs now.


Yesterday because we had the early telemedicine call Jimmy opened up his ice cream shoppe for us an hour early and we got ice cream! Isn't he the best? His staff too because they encouraged us to come early and get ice cream before the call. Sweet literally and figuratively. I cannot believe how lucky we are to be surrounded by amazing and caring people. Enough words. Here's our ice cream from yesterday. LOL it's never too early for ice cream, right?





We both had a combo of one scoop coffee and one scoop vanilla. You cannot beat that combo.

OK it's another top ten weather day. It was purrrrfect weather yesterday and so is today and for that I am very happy. Another cycling day for us.

Hi NIRDI’s! I’m alive - just being “shopping”. See long story below if you are interested or really bored.

@mrs-b I am so glad you had a nice birthday.

@missy great pictures of the classic cars. I love car shows. Mmm ice cream; I am glad you soldier on in hot weather so you can get ice cream. Marty is alive but not back to normal. His crud is hanging on. So far my only health issues are my daily problems nothing new or different. Pretty exciting to get a hair cut! I can never tell how my hair turned out for a few days; it’s like you hair has to adjust again. That is awful the doctor had the wrong patient info when he called you. I sure hate to hear your tests needs repeated and that stinks the insurance won’t cover it. Mega dust coming your way and big hugs. I am glad you are having such nice weather.

@Austina I am glad you enjoyed dining out; our restaurants are back to full capacity but they are having trouble finding help so some places close a few days a week or still limit seating. It is nice to go out though. Marty is better but not back to 100%. I am my normal abnormal self. Our company has a tablet that takes temperatures before you come in to the building. Mine keeps showing up as “normal” to which I always tell anyone else in line - boy do I have that thing fooled! Nice to get a manicure and eyelash tint. It feels good to do some normal things. Work hasn’t been too bad but I had to talk to an employee today who was caught sleeping at her desk by our senior manager. It was brief not much to say other than you were caught sleeping if it happens again it could lead to disciplinary actions. Sigh.

Big hugs to you @springerspaniel I hope you enjoy your lifting. I am very faithful about it and still like doing it. Luckily our bedroom is very dark so Marty would never see me covering my face.

@canuk-gal good idea to go out a day early to celebrate FD. I totally get it about whether your mom should continue driving. My dad started hiding my mom’s keys to keep her from driving. It’s hard to give up that freedom and even harder if you have to be told. Hope that goes well. How exciting to book a trip to Hawaii and get to see your mother and you have a long weekend coming up for Canada Day. We got in to the Waterton side of Glacier NP for free because we just happened to go on Canada Day. I totally understand the urge to get something new in jewelry. I was toying with that myself but did a big U Turn and got a camera.

@junebug17 Marty did get quite a bit of sleep this weekend. His appetite isn’t back yet but he is eating. When he gets a cold his voice gets deeper so I always try to get him to say “This is CNN” but he won’t fall for it anymore. Darn. I noticed yesterday his voice is back to normal. I am doing fine, thank you. I am glad you had such a lovely weekend celebrating your birthday and father’s day. Your ring is GORGEOUS. I love it.

I’m alive but have been obsessed with reading reviews and watching videos because I decided I wanted a new camera. Marty tried to convince me we could share his new one but since next week is our 30th anniversary I know better than that. He takes it to the gym most days, has it hooked up at his desk for conference calls and his vlogs to send his clients commenting on their lifting, then if he goes hiking he'll take it with him - so when would I be able to use it? I spent years in the photo business both printing photos and as a photographer so I wanted to make sure I got just what I wanted. Marty knows how picky I am about lenses so he got excited thinking if we both have a Sony camera we can share lenses - which again I didn't fall for because if we bought one or two really nice lenses who would end up with them? Not me. I finally decided on one of the Canon Rebel cameras - they are small, light and have the basic modes I want in a a camera with none of the extras. I have always got the cheapest camera I can and put money in good lenses. Plus since I only have one "good" eye it's not like I wanted to spend more than 2K to get myself something decent. After narrowing it down to 2 different models then I started reading reviews and watching videos on YouTube. I picked the SL3 because it always makes the top DSLR lists and I can get it in white. It will match the Curbymobile - white with black lenses. Ha. I didn't want the "kit" lens but ended up ordering the camera as a kit because the body only options are few to none. I ordered a telephoto zoom lens and a fast aperture 50 mm lens. There is a macro I almost ordered but it's a fixed focal rate and $350 so I'll see how well the 50mm works for macros; you know I need to be able to take pictures of flowers and jewelry. If the lenses I picked don't take good macros then I'll order the macro lens. Marty was also ordering a pricey wide angle lens for his camera so Amazon was happy tonight.

Not much exciting going on with us. Marty is better but not completely well. My allergies are bad but pollen is very high and smoke is bad.

We are having a corn hole contest and BBQ here for the gym on Saturday. Sunday we have family in town for a celebration of life for an uncle that passed away in Georgia in the spring.

I love corn hole @marcy, they call it Baggo on the ship, and we always go and play We’ll definitely be getting the game when we move. Glad to hear that Marty is feeling a little better, hopefully he’s over the worst of things now. How exciting to be getting a new camera. I know Adam used to have a very expensive Canon and he found it was just too big to take everywhere with him, so he’s downsized to a more ‘portable’ one.

That’s so kind of Jimmy to open up for you @missy, and it’s your duty to consume as much Ice cream as you can Have fun cycling today, it’s another so/so day here weather wise. Keeping everything crossed that you get some answers soon and can finally start on a way forward.

How’re things with you @mrs-b, did your appt go well?

Yesterday started out lovely and sunny, but by the time we got back from our walk, it’d turned grey and overcast. Very mixed here today, bouts of sunshine interspersed with grey skies. We’re supposed to be in for a heatwave, but no sign of it yet.

Don’t read the next bit if you’re squeamish. Adam and Kim FaceTimed yesterday, and it seems little Bertie had an accident in his crate overnight. First time it happened, and Kim thinks she gave him too many veggies the evening before. The really sad thing though, is that he hid it under his blanket and Adam thinks he’d probably been told off in the past, before he was fully housetrained. Of course, they didn’t make an issue out of it, just let him out and cleaned it up. I know with our dogs, if they ever had an accident, they’d get so upset, so I can only imagine Bertie was scared, even though he couldn’t help it.

No plans for the weekend, I don’t think the weather is going to be that great.

Hi NIRDI’s. It’s a chilly snowy day in this region of the Rocky Mountains

@Austina poor Bertie. I have never played baggo but I’ll give it a try. I totally get Adam wanting a smaller camera. I had a Pentax K1000 SLR with a ton of lenses and he’s they weighed a ton too. When DSLR came out I went Pentax to keep using the lenses I had a fortune invested in, sadly they didn’t have the necessary electronics to transfer worlds so they are still sitting in my back bedroom. That’s when I started getting point and shoot cameras. Now I guess I’m graduating back to the new world of cameras. I’m totally ordering a macro lens tonight though. Enjoy your quiet weekend.

I am at lunch at work. I would have to warm up to be freezing. I have my lap blanket over my shoulders. I haven’t been cold being back in the office this this week but it looks like they cranked up the AC again. Darn.

@Austina thank you and yes we need our ice cream. Jimmy is a hoot and his staff is wonderful. We love each and everyone of them. I even text with two of the lovely girls who work there. One is an RN who has been working part time for Jimmy for years and while she is still in school (getting advanced degrees for going into nursing admin) she continues to work for J. Anyway suffice to say I adore all of them. I am so sorry about Bertie and hope he is fully recovered and doing well now. I believe most of us who have animals in our family have dealt with accidents like that. Hugs to Bertie and Adam and Kim. Hope your heatwave isn't too bad and there are more sunny days than not.

Hi to everyone else. We had a very busy day yesterday. So Wednesday was my call with the bone specialist. Still waiting to hear from his secretary about my next move. Thursday was a beautiful day and we cycled the entire day and of course enjoyed ice cream. Yesterday I had a new doctor appointment far away with another OP specialist. She was very nice but I am not super impressed with her as I know more than she does about certain aspects of OP. So just keeping her in my back pocket so to speak. She doesn't feel I need meds just yet but she is looking at my June 2021 DXA which is probably too optimistic and inaccurate in findings. So the process continues. Now I just wait to hear from Dr B. Fingers crossed it all somehow works out. After my appointment we didn't get back til noon but we got home and changed into cycling clothes and had a great afternoon cycling and haha of course enjoyed more ice cream.

Next week is a busy week. Going out to lunch with friends Monday and finally signing our (updated) wills. Wednesday we are having friends over to our house weather permitting. And Saturday my sister and nieces and BIL are coming over to our beach house. So for us a very busy social week which I know ultimately will be lovely but in the interim I am a bit apprehensive about all the plans. Lots going on in addition to the social plans and it feels like just a little too much activity for me. But I know it will be fun. I hope.

Oh and I washed my hair the other day and I love my new haircut. He did a great job and once I washed it and let it air dry it looked good IMO. Curly, less frizzy and neat (and shorter). I dreamed I had a very short hair cut last night and was glad to wake up haha.

@missy thank you - I am excited to get my camera but was crushed today when Amazon sent Marty an email saying that order had been cancelled. It also said we’d get a refund within 2 days so once that credit shows I plan on ordering it from somewhere else. I am tempted to order it now but I’ll try to be patient. I have one of the lenses already and another one is supposed to show up tomorrow. Oh well, if that’s the worst problem I ever have I am doing good. I’m just whining. Marty seems better today. I have no idea what he has / had. I told him it was karma - ha ha. I do remember your office was very cold when you were working. It does make one miserable. That is so awesome about Jimmy and his staff; they sound like wonderful people! That is too bad you the OP specialist wasn’t very impressive; hoping everything works out for with your Dr B. You do have a busy week coming up; sounds like a lot of fun! Glad to hear you like your new haircut.

@canuk-gal darn that it is so hot there and you’ll be putting in a lot of hours at work over the next several weeks.

For some unknown reason I set my alarm last night so we both got rudely woke up at 6 am today. Marty said I had to buy him breakfast then - I said fine but I’m using your money. And thus began our day. I spent most of my morning doing laundry and reading the manual I downloaded for my new camera which sadly didn’t get delivered. Boo.

Marty’s BBQ went well. About 10 people came over. They all left about 6:30; and wow they were the best guests ever. They picked up after themselves, brought everything upstairs, many took food home with them. After they left I filled a trash bag, stuck a few dishes in the dishwasher, wiped off the countertops in the man cave and told Marty that was the easiest party cleanup ever!

I cleaned out my camera accessories today - holy cow you can tell I used to work at a photo shop. I have more stinking filters than anyone would ever need. Some weren’t in cases so I threw them out - no point using a scratched filter. Found a few things to pass on to the nephew I gave our Pentax DSLR too and now can I say I cleaned out one section of my I’ll just put this here room. Sweet.

Hi to everyone else. It's been a wonderful week and weekend weather wise. Cannot complain despite it getting warmer here just like the temps by @canuk-gal. Difference for me is I don't love the hot temps but hey if we can cycle it is all good. And we are cycling today. Next week we aren't cycling much as we have social engagements almost every other day but it will be nice seeing friends and family so it's worth missing cycling a few days for sure.

It's a heatwave and of course we have 3 social engagements outdoors this week. LOL.
I could have predicted this when we made plans haha but we will make the best of it. One of my friends doesn't want to be inside but I am thinking we can change her mind with heat indices in the 100s F so it will be, to say the least, an interesting week.

@canuk-gal glad you enjoyed a lovely walk and saw the birds. You are right, they do not mind the heat haha. I agree with you the heat can be draining. We enjoyed another lovely cycling day yesterday courtesy of the cool East wind. Unfortunately the forecast for the entire week is a hot unforgiving west wind. Yay you had dinner out last night and that is what we are doing today but in the afternoon Have a wonderful Monday.

We certainly had a fun weekend. Cycling by the sea, enjoying a cool East wind despite the warm temps and of course having ice cream each and every day. It was literally and figuratively a sweet weekend.

Thank you so much @missy, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the care and love you put in to my birthday message. The photos are stunning, and a sharp contrast to the dreary weather we’ve had here all weekend. I love the sound of the strawberry, basil and balsamic, I think I have a recipe somewhere for a starter with those ingredients. What a busy week you’ve got, and yes, I bet your friend will soon change her mind when the gauge hits 100deg F! Aww, look how tiny Ollie looks, and Sasha looks so sleek. How did you discover she’s deaf?

We had a quiet weekend, we did manage to get out for a walk on Saturday, but it was pretty miserable. Yesterday it rained all day so we stayed in.

I’ve spent most of today chatting with people, we’ve just spent 2 1/2 hrs talking to our friends in Ohio, they’re so excited their daughter is pregnant.

There was a big box of flowers waiting for me on the doorstep this morning, from Adam and Kim. We’re going out to lunch tomorrow with our friends, really looking forward to that.

@springerspaniel - I had an appt with an ophthalmologist today and sat in the waiting room reading your paper. Thank you so much for sending it through - it's really interesting and a bit shocking when you read the stats. I hope all is well with you and the stress has dropped now that it's done!

@bling_dream19 - how are you? Your new ring is VERY nice! I hope your mother is seeing some improvement!

@junebug17 - how is SC? I hope you're having a lovely time and that you'll have a lot of fun when DD arrives! And are you loving your new ring? It's absolutely gorgeous!! What a way to finish a collection! And so jealous you made it to the beach!

@Slick1 - VACATION!! Wooooo hooooo! Hoping this time allows you to recharge and feel wonderful! How many weeks do you get off? And can I ask what grade or subject you normally teach? I have a number of teachers in my family, and my best friend is head teacher in a local community college. Seriously most over-worked people on the planet.

So - good news, good news and more good-ish news for me. The good-ish news was I had a wonderful birthday. Good-ish because of how much we ate and the new 5 lbs I now need to lose!! Ergo - full keto (as opposed to just low carb) again, starting today. David was out for 1.5 weeks and Nathaniel was here for a week, plus Eleanor has come back for 2 months - so we had a very full household! But it's been fun and my birthday week was wonderful.

More good news - my back is much improved. I pushed back the surgical appt 2 weeks when it was so painful I felt I couldn't sit in the car to do the 1.5 hour round trip, but now it's much better anyway, so I'm hugely relieved. I'm still going to need this surgery, but chronic rather than acute makes the surgery much more doable and gives me less I need to recover from in a surgical setting. I'm still not back to full exercise as yet, but I've been walking for 15-20 minutes a few times a day, so there's that.

Even more good news....and I hesitate to say this out loud, but...I think my Crohn's is in remission! I've thought this before and it's been precipitate, but rather than having a few good days or a good week or two, I've watched this improve gradually for over a month now, and it seems to be holding steady so far. We also did big meals for my birthday celebrations AND my back has been bad (which always sets it off) AND I've been really tired (which also always sets it off) and - nothing! So - fingers crossed! If I am, it will be the first time in almost 3 years.

Summer vacation began today and I am so happy!! But, I seem to be having a flare up of my AI symptoms, but fighting through nonetheless. It’s amazing how acutely I feel the weather changes.

Good morning girls!

Wow the heat is on! Heat indices in the 100s. Praying our electricity and AC keep on working.

@Austina have a a wonderful time with your friends today and happy continued birthday week.
We realized Sasha was deaf when we approached her (as she lay there not seeing us) and she did not move but when she caught sight of us she ran. And whenever we cycle up and she is under the car and we are making noise bike on the gravel she doesn't move. We can walk up to her and call her name and she doesn't hear us at all but when she sees us then she gets startled. She is so sweet. She was laying outside in our backyard yesterday evening and then moved to our side yard on the picnic table. She is a love. It is so hot outside I am worried but we have provided fresh water but still. It is beastly hot. Hugs.

@mrs-b your post made my morning, thank you. So happy your Crohn's is in remission (go Humira!) and your back is better. Sweet relief. And yassss to having all your loved ones under your roof. Truly a happy time and may it long continue. And same here. Coffee and vanilla are my fave combo and it is all I had been getting since I had it a few weeks ago lol. This entire week is going to be hot and then severe thunderstorms so I hate to say this but I am very much looking forward to better weather and may this week go quickly. Yesterday we met our dear friends at an air conditioned restaurant by the sea. Original plans were to eat outside but we decided indoors was best due to the heat. And it was lovely. We also signed our final (for now) wills since this is the friend who redid them for us. It was so good seeing them a it had been far too long. Next time (in a couple of months) we are having them over our place. They are about 90 minutes away so we decided best during non touristy season.

Today we are going to attempt cycling but not sure we will be successful. Depends on the wind and we won't know it til we reach the ocean route because it is a local phenomena the sea breeze. And tomorrow we are supposed to have my friends over our house but she is reluctant to be inside (her DH has zero immune system since his cancer treatment in the 90s) despite all of us including them being vaccinated so not sure how tomorrow will play out. We will prepare as if they are coming but we will see if it actually happens. I am going to give her the choice of coming over and staying inside in the AC but I understand if she doesn't want to.


Dr B's secretary called me yesterday and told me the DXA will cost $390 out of pocket (since I just had one a few weeks ago) and do I still want to repeat it. Truth be told no I am apprehensive about the real results but I cannot bury my head in the sand so yes I will repeat it. In a little over 2 weeks I will head into the city and repeat it. Sigh. This bone doctor doesn't do them himself though (unlike my rheumatologist who does the DXA himself) so a tech will be doing them and I don't think I will be getting the results that day. Ugh I just want to hide my head in the sand really and leave it as it is. Am I doing the right thing? Onward and forward. Knowledge is power. If we can do something about it that is...
