Not sure about my "upgrade"

what part of your trade in do you lose if you don’t get your new setting from JA?
It looks like you need to look for specs just like your original stone (being ‘spready’ and lower HCA score than the current one), and that may not be in normal PS suggested specs? I don’t know? I’m not one of the diamond gurus here. Outta my comfort zone.

Yeah or increase my budget lol. I’ve asked my local jeweler to provide a quote on my existing stone so that I can decide if the loss is worth opening up my buying options. Just using the search function on here with the HCA tool, I see a few that should perform well but I have to account for the loss the trade in.

Ok, I have a plan! I am going to go with what I think is a better performing diamond and then have my local jeweler create the setting for me to my specs so that It's exactly the look I want.. I appreciate you all taking the time out to help and comment! I will send an update when it's completed!

If you have any feedback on this stone, let me know:

Can't wait to see the completed upgrade!

My humble opoinnion go down a grade in color and clarity and get your self a 1.00 gorgeous stone

I also think you could go down in color and clarity and get a larger stone for the same budget. Overall I think size is most noticeable at least to me. I have an I color diamond and it's my personal sweet spot. Was able to get a much larger size for our budget because of going to an I. Originally wanted a G color though.

Also, wanted to add you can have James Allen put a hold on the diamonds while you decide.

I agree but would see if you could hit the one carat mark with G VS2. I think it may be possible and the difference in size would be noticeable in person I think.

I'm not convinced you will be thrilled with this going from a spready .51 to an average .86.

I need to get on my laptop but I will poke around.

I have no idea what eye clean would look like with some of the VS2's I have seen. I get really afraid of making a decision on a stone that has a lot of inclusions as I have no experience on what will impact the performance and appearance. If anyone has links to videos or websites that help educate diamond newbies like me, it would be appreciated!

From the Knowledge tab near the top of this page:

VS2 shouldn't be an issue. But we can tell a lot by seeing the video of the stone.

I forgot what a PITA it is to shop on James Allen without certificates, but this one looks clean, nice size, and according to the search, passes the HCA. The spread is much better than the .86 as well.

Thanks! I'm going to ask for the cert. I hate having to do that with every stone.
