John Pollard published a new blog post.

We're pretty cool, right?

As a species we are thoroughly enjoying the production of manmade diamonds. We’re making incredible breakthroughs. We're improving quality and using them in different sectors. We're mastering the craft of cooking our own diamonds in our own kitchens. At last...

Wow, what a great article, John Pollard!

Did you know about those three diamond categories?
No, I did not...I was only aware of what would be categorized as "lithospheric" diamonds.

Do you think you’re wearing a lithospheric or oceanic diamond?
Neither - my wife wears the diamonds.

Does having dead critter carbon in your diamond sound icky?
Not at all!

Is there a market for a gem-quality super-deep diamond brand?
Eh, I think it won't matter to most consumers.

What PriceScope vendor should carry them?
Don't know.

What would the promo slogan be?
"Diamonds from so deep down, they're beautiful as hell!"

Did you know space was so close?
Yes!

Did you see Captain Kirk fly there last month?
I sure did!

Is Mister Spock jealous about that or non-emotional?
Jealous - it's only logical!

Would you wear dilithium crystal jewelry?
Only if I were dressing for making a...power...statement.

Would that make Scotty mad?
When isn't Scotty's mad?

Not everyone believes all those theories about oceanic diamonds John.
My friend Ewen Tyler (who has found more diamonds than any living human) thinks its bunkum :cool2:
That's the wonderful thing about science. Everything remains a theory and even after being proven, the new fact can be proven wrong.

True, true. Of course -

- Not everyone believes carbon captured from the atmosphere can be upgraded for CVD use.
- Not everyone believes we landed on the moon.
- Not everyone believes the world is round.
- And so it goes

Speaking of atmospheric carbon, calculating all the ages of the earth since the evolution of photosynthesis and the supercontinent cycles, our biosphere is highly saturated with organic carbon - atmospheric dioxygen and plenty (!) of reservoirs in the lithosphere. For that reason high δ13C = peridotic and low δ13C = critter-based seems perfectly logical to me. But I won't lose sleep if someone proves otherwise.

The super-deep delta-C-thirteen surprise remains too cool for school.

Thank you. My wife called me a nerd when she read it. That's a sure sign I had fun doing it.

It ain't "Diamonds are Forever" but it has a certain (wait for it)... RING to it.

Would you wear dilithium crystal jewelry?
Only if I were dressing for making a...power...statement.
Okay. Yours is better. That's solid content right there.

Would that make Scotty mad?
When isn't Scotty's mad?

That has been a lot of fun youáll!
John you better get on down here asap and meet Ewen. He is 94 so don't waste time.
He is a real gem and a living walking story book as you know from the Argyle book!
I'm overdue, and that's added incentive.
