No, but that''s a very good guess. Under the lights at home it looks like one!

Not iolite either, but a good guess.

you got it! I knew it wouldn''t be too hard.

DH thought it was an amethyst.

I''ll have to wait until later to post the exact specs but I got it from Barry and it''s from Tanzania. He says it has a lot of different looks with Tanzanite being one of them, so I can''t wait to take some more pictures! In direct lighting it''s gunmetal grey, exactly as I requested.

The first shot shows alot of purple. The next few shots show the blue...I guess it's a Spinel cut by Barry.

ETA: post above wasn't in the thread when I read it. Spinels are just so so popular right now and it looked like a Barry cut to me. If only I was faster on these then my answer would be there before your confirmation.

You are right too! Barry''s got to be BUSY! His cuts do tend to stand out.

It''s a nice deep color. I''m starting to love blue spinel.

I recognized the cut right away as a Barry stone. I''ll go so far as to guess the origin is Tunduru, basically a Tanzanian blue spinel.

It''s only because I have a very similar stone from Barry that I purchased many years ago.

It''s a lovely blue in some lighting and a little purplish in others. Extremely sparkly and the gray mask isn''t overly obvious either.

WOW!

I guessed right too. I am giving a pat on the back to myself. I am surprising myself that I can recognize stones now. I went from knowning nothing at all last year - thank you PS!

Gorgeous!

I particularly love the flower shots!

OMG - gorgeous spinel!!! Those flower shots slayed me - especially the one on the pink flower (rose) -

- and, the tourmaline is beautiful too and you did a great job at capturing it in photos - I tried with mine earlier today and it was really difficult - yours is a beauty.
