For those who don't already know, The Gem Trader posted new stones today. I think those spinel baguettes will be nice project stones for someone!

And is it just me, or does Dana have a lot of beautiful things listed right now? I may have picked up the gray/lavender spinel but it's still listed on the site even though I paid, so I'm not sure yet.

Several things have already disappeared but no one has shared, so I'm curious if other PSers have picked up anything new from these sites or others recently? Do share! :appl:

I thought briefly about both the spinel pairs, the baguette (which would make excellent sidestones) and the ovals (maybe earrings or sidestones). Geez, it's not like I need more unset stones now, do I? ;)) I also thought about the benitoite but I have too many projects going on at the moment.

I requested the baguettes but someone got in ahead of me (or is at least thinking about them.)

The plum colored spinel from Dana is interesting, too. Also, Gemfix has a great drop of sapphires. About 12 of them not including the montana sapphires. It really lets you see some of the variation in color!

Oh, I was tempted by several on all 3 sites. No extra shekels till I set some of what I have. Brad's amethyst on eBay really tempted me but I think I'd rather have a pair for earrings -- not so easy to find in very fine quality. Did a PSer buy his lovely mint tourmaline? Please?

Brad's drop was great. As usual, I was tempted by the covellite quartz but I stayed strong (it isn't like I don't already have 3 of them in my gem box... but the marquise shape is sweet!). The tourmaline is yummy as well.

I loved the pallasite peridot set - such a neat, neat idea. Then I had to explain to my BF why the cat's eye sapphire was so much more expensive than the apatite

What a shame that Apatite is such a soft gem...that cats eye is amazing...I'd love one of those in a ring, but how long before it gets scratched? A half hour?

I was the lucky winner of the Mint Tourmaline..I just found out after reading this post that I hadn't heard if I won it or not! I guess I missed Brads email. He said there was a lot of interest in the stone, so I was lucky for once ;-) I told him, I emailed him as soon as I saw the stone without even looking at the rest of them..lol. I've been after a nice Mint Tourmaline for a while.

Congrats on the mint green tourmaline. I think the cat's eye apatite will hold up well in a ring. Soft stones are more durable as cabochons rather than a faceted stone because there are no corners to chip or abraise.

I toyed with that mint tourmaline too but do NOT need another project at the moment - I've got to get that pear done! :knockout:
Congrats - its beautiful!! Do yo have plans for it?

Thanks!

Chrono...I knew that cab's are more durable than facets...but I had no idea you could go as soft as apatite (5) and still do a ring. Im glad you made me aware of this....now I may have to find one to buy. lol. That one on Brad's site is already gone. Too bad I never thought to ask about it here, but I never really had cat's eye Apatite on my radar until I saw that awesome color Blue.

JBK, no...no plans for the stone. Just another addition to my collection. I don't have the privalidge you ladies have, of wearing multiple rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and so on. As a guy, unless I want to look like Liberace I can only wear one ring at a time. I have toyed with the idea of pendants, even had one made, only to sell it because I felt "weird" wearing a pendant. Im also not a guy that would ever wear an earring...so...there are only so many pieces I will set. Sure, I have a list of about ten rings, lol...but really, when you can only wear one at a time, how many do you need to have? haha.

bluebird, I just noticed your avatar...wow, that is cool and different. What is that metal? Is that white gold? IF so, how did you get it to look like that? I really like that!

Good news for me, I did get the gray/lavender spinel from Mastercut Gems. I know sometimes more than one person pays by accident so I wasn't positive. I particularly love the handshot, and it looks so pretty on the site flanked by raspberries and plums. Gray is not for everyone, but I'm a big fan.

Thank you, Chris, for the complement on my ring. It's unplated palladium white gold with a very soft satin finish. I did want something different and I think it really lets the diamond pop. Lol about not wanting to look like Liberace. Maybe you should go to a PS GTG and you wouldn't feel so bad getting decked out.

Congratulations on the tourm, Chris. If I'd seen it earlier, you would be saying that to me! It's very nice & a good addition to your collection. Brad did have some great stones this time.

I didn't know apatite cabs would work in a ring either, Chrono. Cool to remember. I'm always falling in love with various faceted apatites & passing them up sadly. Will probably not be able to resist buying one sometime just to have & admire.

Laurie...I hear you! Apatite is such a nice gemstone...I have several of them..the colors are unbelievable...even the non-neon ones. I have a green round that looks like a chrome tourmaline...

I love stars and cats eyes...I would eventually like to have a ring with one of them. I was spoiled by having a perfect (linde) star Sapphire...Ive had it forever..and when I found out it was a 'fake' I started hating it. Then I saw what real ones look like...and I was sort of disheartened because they don't always look perfect like that Linde....so maybe a cats eye is a better option for a more perfect-looking natural stone (that I can afford..oops, forgot to put that in there...I realize there are perfect star sapphires out there--I just dont have a gazillion dollars!)

I sometimes get bored of some of my gems so theres always a chance ill decide to sell the mint tourm at some point..if that ever happens ill try to leave a note on PS preloved that its on my ebay site...lol. But Im not bored with it yet since I dont even have it yet! lol

Wow Bluebirrrd !!!! :wavey:

That is such a lovely and unusual gem spinel. Dana has such a huge variety of colors of gem spinels…

I will have to say I have been stalking PS for about 3 years and buying fine gems from Dana and other cutters for about 8 years.

I find it amazing that Mastercutgems has such a variety of some of the most unusual and rare gems in one location. I know he has been collecting for over 20 years and when I get him to source me out some things he normally comes through with something I have never heard of much less seen.

I hope you like your spinel; but I know if you do not; Dana will surely make it right.

He is a fun man to deal with. :appl:
I am working on my photo skills.... I hope to post some of my GOODIES soon!!!!

Take care and enjoy your fine stuff!

crying here,Brad said I was the second to asking for that mint tourmaline and will let me know if it's available again. I guess it won't since you seems very like it. I recently returned a mint tourmaline from GLI and am searching for a clean and yummy one. That one is just gorgeous!! If you do get bored,I am hunting right after that babie!! ;)

Otl,

Sorry...

Check out Barry's website...he has some nice ones and they are on sale this month. I am retiring the one I bought from him, so that one will be there soon. The one that I bought is the supernova oval. It is awesome...very sparkly, more of a pale mint. Only reason its going back is the size. It's 6.7x5.8. Just a tiny bit too small for me really. It's $112. WWW.acstones.com..

Thanks Chris

I need the color a little richer than that. Nothing wrong with pale mint, I prefer saturated ones

I tried for the zircon suite from Brad, but got beat on them. I can see several lovely pairs, and I was thinking that they could also be used as sparkly accent stones in place of diamonds.

Maybe next time. :))

I am getting antsy because of the pink fire quartz. I don't need it, I have other examples of this material, I have shot my gem budget already. Can't someone get it and put me out of my misery?
