Do you know what's her ring size? There's a whole bunch of pictures of similarly sized diamonds on almost every finger size in the Show Me The Bling section of PS, you can do a search on the top of the page. For example, the ring in my avatar picture is a 0.65 H VS2 on a size 7 finger (better pictures are here: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...l-legato-sleek-line-pave-0-65ct-h-vs2.193050/). I'd imagine your gf will have a smaller ring size than that. And there's no worries about the H color, I've never seen tint in the one I bought

There are other vendors PSers trust like Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, High Performance Diamonds, etc, but to be honest that BGD stone people suggested seems just perfect for you.

now thats a beautiful ring you have there like wow. I love the setting to omg. her ring size is a 6. The problem with the bgd stone is I want a decent setting like yours kind of. This is why solitaires are so much harder than fancies cause a solitaire is more expensive lol.

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

Focus on getting a great stone first. You can always upgrade the setting down the road when you have a little more money.

Right now, I'd get yourself a nice round in a simple, classic solitaire setting. It will be clean and stunning, plus it won't break the bank for the time-being.

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

Seriously, step away from the thought that a solitaire isn't as blingy as the NL ring. I know if you look at a Neil Lane cacophony of frozen boogers and that BGD diamond in a solitaire the BGD will blow the other out of the water!
The cut on the BG stone will sparkle so much you won't miss the other stones.
Get a simple solitaire now, and she can either change it for an anniversary or start a stack of bands after the wedding.
You will be so happy you were smart enough to find this place!!!

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

I have a BGD .64 carat solitaire and I think I'm about the same build as your girlfriend. Here's a closeup picture of it on my hand, however be warned that the closeups make it look bigger than it actually is in real life.

ETA: and here's another where you can get a slightly better idea of what it looks like IRL - sorry for all the pictures, but I know I always found it helpful to have some kind of reference when it comes to judging size.

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

wow that looks really nice and yeah u are like the same build and you have long fingers like her to. That looks really pretty. Ok so gonna look at those diamonds now but maybe I can increase budget a few for a stronger setting maybe with side stones.

Keeping the same stone I had mentioned before:
.60ct, H, SI1

If you up your budget by less than $500 you could have this setting:

If you up your budget by about $1000, you could have this setting:

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

Here's what we did: we put the ring in an inexpensive 14K gold stock setting and agreed that later on we would upgrade it (the setting). I've been wearing it for about 6 months now, and I'm in the process of upgrading it to a 3 stone.
I know that not everybody likes this kind of practical approach, but I think it's pretty awesome, because we a. didn't go over budget on the initial purchase, putting everything towards the best stone we could get and b. I had some time to decide what I REALLY wanted as a forever ring (and trust me, over the months it has changed quite a bit - I went from thin pave band to plat high cathedral to 3 stone with pear sides to, finally, 3 stone with round sides). You know her best, but that's also an option that you might want to consider.

Oh, and even though photos are really not a great way of judging color, but mine is a J.

Here's a diamond:

http://design.kay-diamonds.com/diamonds/diamond/diam112262/

$4,400.

Here's a diamond:

$2,250.

Hey, that's weird. They look exactly alike!

That's because they are exactly alike! Neither Kay nor James Allen actually owns that stone. Both would buy it from the same place and resell it to you. Except that one of the dealers thinks you should pay more.

Still tempted to buy from Kay? If you really want a fancier setting, compromise on something but stay far, far away from Kay.

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

Just get her a nice solitaire. I understand you like pave. But an all metal solitaire is much more flexible with wedding bands. When it's time to buy those, just put a little extra bling in the purchase of the band and that will be lovely.

Oh my gosh, reading this thread is like watching an action movie! So much excitement and suspense in such a short amount of time! OP, you've found some great advice here, I know you're going to do so well! The love you have for your future fiance is palpable and I'm absolutely giddy to see what you decide on. :D

Both James Allen and Blue Nile are drop shippers.

Hi Gypsy,

If I may, I want to correct that statement.

Yes, we have a virtual inventory. With that said:

Every diamond is photographed by OUR staff.
Every diamond is inspected by a GG in our office prior to being set or shipped to a client.
Every ring is inspected by a GG prior to shipping to a client.
We regularly reject diamonds that are chipped, don’t match the cert, have durability concerns etc. This is standard procedure – not just a special service for PS members.
We only list diamonds on our website that are guaranteed available.
We only list diamonds on our website from an exclusive group of manufacturers.

Nothing against Blue Nile (or anyone who chooses to ship a diamond they've never seen), but that is definitely NOT our business model.

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

My mistake. Sorry Jim. You guys definitely do more than BN and the straight drop shippers. I should have clarified what I meant better.

But I bet if you buy it from Kay, you can barter down 30%! Don't you want 30% off? It'll still be $830 more than buying from James Allen, but James Allen won't barter with you!

How fun!! If you plan to propose on the cruise, please don't wait until the last day. You don't want to worry about the ring all the time, and if she happens to suspect you might propose, she will be waiting for it the whole time -- trust me. I think it would be super romantic to propose on this ship at sunset, without a big crowd like at dinner. Even better, you could propose when you pick her up to leave for the cruise! Either way, proposing early will make her even more excited during the trip! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Just my opinion, though!

Don't make a girl wait. It will be such a happy time...and you can enjoy much more of it newly engaged.

Any of these stones will be awesome and guaranteed to be the best of the best. Enjoy making your choice!

Re: Newbie needs help fast! Almost bought from kay. march de

I love Rocky's choices. For 3500 range I adore that I colored stone at .78. The G VS2 at .77 is awesome too, though it is more expensive.
Both are only a hair (not really visible) shy of 6mm which is a FANTASTIC size.
