Hi, I'm new here. I've been lurking here for the past week and already have learned so much, although very overwhelming. My future fiance and I went to Robbins Brothers just to see what they were all about and just how overpriced they were. Yes, they were ridiculously overpriced! But I wanted to see loose diamonds for myself before we purchased anything online. I have come to the conclusion that I'm pretty color sensitive and would prefer a H or higher. As far as clarity, I don't mind SI1 as long as it is eye clean. The SI1s we saw at Robbins Brothers I can definitely see inclusions.

So, I have looked at Whiteflash, James Allen, and Good Old Gold. I have found the following diamonds and would like some expert opinions:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8255/
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2630989.htm
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1358989.asp

Now I'm not even sure if these three stones are comparable to one another, so I just thought I'd put it out there for expert opinion. Our budget is 6000k for the diamond and 2000k for the setting. I already have my sights set on a halo setting with pave diamond such as this one from JA http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/ring/item_412-8325.asp.. I have also seen one with WF.

Please help us find the biggest bang for our buck!

Thanks!

Not enough info on the WF stone.

GOG stone looks good, ask if eye-clean. JA stone, request for an idealscope image.

Hi!

I'm far from specialist but IMO, you can have at least 1 full ct for $6000!

If I were you, I would like to low the clarity a little bit to increase the size of the diamond. You can find tons of SI1 who are totaly eyes clean.

I think the 0.96 from GOG looks great, and you avoid 1 ct premium. with WF stone, as SC says, not enough info. if you are interested in searching the virtual inventory, use the HCA tool

I prefer the fatter arrows of the GOG stone.

Idealscope image looks good.

So down to personal preference. Do you like the fatter or thinner arrow-shafts?

Ok being completely naive. What is the difference of fatter or thinner arrows? Does it make one or the other shine more?

in a nutshell fatter arrows = bigger facets, bigger facets = fewer larger, bolder flashes & potential for more colour. Smaller facets = stone that excels in white light return w/ many smaller, quicker flashes. It's a matter of personal preference.
