New setting for OMC

I recently made this sterling setting for my little OMC.
What do you guys think?
Is it better than the drop shaped setting that I had previously made?

Do you like the round setting or drop shaped setting?

All opinions welcome!




The diamond is not mounted yet, it is just laying in the setting for now.

I like them both. Really nice work and both are beautiful. I like the drop shape because it is elongated and elegant. I like the round setting because the diamond IMHO looks larger surrounded by the white metal and appears more casual.

I prefer the drop as it makes the pendant more substantial, if you know what I mean.

I would probably surround the stone entirely in metal to make it more substantial.

Aesthetically, I prefer the drop pendant. I think a colored stone would look fabulous in the round pendant though!

Hi Stracci2000. I love the round nearly collet style setting because it makes the stone look bigger. I love the teardrop for the reasons that Nala gave, the edges are more defined.

OT but I’d love to hear what you do for jewelry making. Is this something you learned somewhere? Do you work in sterling? It’s so cool.

I learned silversmithing back in 2004. A woman from the Zuni Pueblo here in NM, gave me a crash course in jewelry making.
I've been on my own ever since.
I am lucky that jewelry making is alive and well in my area, mostly due to the large Native American population here. It is really easy to get supplies and tools, as there are many shops around who cater to the industry.
I just do it as a hobby, and have made a few things over the years for family and friends.
Here are a few things I have made and posted here on PS.
There are lots more buried up in the 'colored stones' forum.

Fire Agate

I have been enamored of fire agates recently. They are so fascinating! This stone is pretty cool, the way it resembles a slice of orange or maybe the underside of a hot air balloon. The back of the stone is also amazing.

I hope you guys aren't tired of me posting my projects! Yesterday, I bought some gems, and DH claimed this star ruby. So I made him this ring tonight. The stone is not transparent, but I liked the dark red color. I was thinking of an industrial, rugged kind of setting, to compliment the stone...
