New Life for a Pear & Trillion E-Ring

hi everyone! i've been living vicariously lurking for years as the niece of Lynn B
learning SO much and drooling along with her at ALL the gorgeous rocks & BLING of you dear PSers!

...and now i am daring to jump in and share this new project of mine.

i've had in my jewelry box for 13 years a lovely E-ring from my Ex.
it's a 1.02 E VS1 chubby Pear and two trillions set into an 18k YG setting.
(please see attached)

pears are nice, but i think they look really E-ring-ish... so what to do with it? how do i minimize the bow-tie?
i've been toying with the idea of a RHR with it for YEARS! (because you can's stare at a pendant easily!)
...but have been dithering without a clear idea of how to re-purpose it...until i spent a week with dear Auntie Lynn B and i think just being around her (and yes she's just as gorgeous, adorable and nice as she seems here in PS! she's the BEST!) inspired me to come up with a really cool idea which she improved upon by adding 2 more diamonds!!! LOL

So here's the big idea!

Set the pear and tilt it on its side, not quite East-West but close...putting the trillions offset next to it and adding in 2 smaller ideal rounds .12 and .20tcw diamonds to the left and the right for balance

what i couldn't do in photoshop are the raised bezels....
all the stones would be circled with raised bezels and the indicated stones would bump off the band above and below
in a modern style...all on a comfort fit platinum band that will be, i think, just gorgeous!!!

i emailed off the photoshopped mock up below to 3 different custom houses that my dear auntie has used in the past (Brian Gavin Diamonds, White Flash & Quest) and i settled on Quest for the best price and that they are only an hour away from me and Pete seemed so genuinely interested & excited about this project! even offering some ideas about making the band a bit more flowy around the bezels still keeping the feel of modernity.

so, i sent the stones into Pete and i'm now waiting for the CAD!
YAY! stay tuned for the CAD pics! & hopefully in 4-5 weeks the final reveal! i may need help with ideas when the CADs come in....EEP! this is scary but exciting for me!

Yep, it was so much fun working on this a few weeks again when my darling niece spent a week with me. We had such a good time... made a pilgrimage to Tiffany's and spent about 2 hours in their private showing room sipping champagne and trying on the BIG DIAMONDS

... (but that's a different thread for a different time...!)

AND I digress!!!

OK, first off, let me say that I have seen that chubby pear many times up close and personal, and it is icy white and quite the dazzler!

I think it is going to make a KILLER RHR. We had so much fun with her excellent photoshopping skills... tilting the pear and trillions this way and that... and then adding the 2 little round H&A melee was the perfect finishing *TA-DA!*

Each vendor we contacted was (as expected!) wonderful. It was REALLY HARD for my niece to choose... but of course, only one vendor could ultimately get the job. I especially appreciated Lesley's response after my niece told her that she had finally made the VERY DIFFICULT decision and was going to go with Quest. Lesley was so classy and gracious; she wished my niece all the best and assured her that Quest would create a beautiful ring for her. Way to go, Lesley!

Anyway, now we are excitedly looking forward to the CADs... OH! I cannot WAIT to see this finished project. And lucky, lucky me, I will get to see it in REAL LIFE technicolor!!!

put it in a RHR rotated about 45 degrees like you are thinking...definitly kept it from looking like a wedding ring so I think you

..let me just say i **agonized** over this!! first for years and then weeks...
should i? shouldn''t ? poor aunty lynn! [grins]
thanks goodness she''s made of strong stuff!...

the clincher was that platinum is at an all time low whilst gold is pretty high.
$911 an oz for gold and $1190 an oz for platinum...so the ring that i''m getting had it been done
2-3 years ago it would have cost twice as much!...so i had better get it done now before i chicken out
again and do something practical with it like build a new deck off my house or some such frippery!

SZH07: the stones will all be bezel set...raised pretty high..and they''ll prolly
have to be spaced farther apart than my photoshopped creation to make room
(and i''m sure with more precision!)
the band is likely to be a thick 9mm and with the comfort fit
it''s going to be a lovely hunky clunky heavy bold ring! just as i want!
and never mind the scratching...give me the patina as long as i have the strength! [grins]
OMGosh! i can''t wait!

talked to Pete today... he says the diamonds are beautiful and measured the trillions for me (i had forgotten their exact weight) one is .26 the other .29...he's hoping to get the CAD out to me by next week and the ring on my finger by the 3rd week of August!! OMGosh! i can't imagine going back to school (i'm a media specialist) wearing that ring on my hand!!!!

to total TCW if the ring will be 1.89TCW

Oh and i blame PS (and my darling auntie lynn) ....because all i can think of is if i add another .11 diamond it would be a full 2TCW RHR!!!!!!!

am i crazy!!???

add another .12 diamond so that the TCW is over 2carats?
or is an odd number better to have?
i even tried to see how an extra diamond could fit...

Yes, yes...I like it better with the 3 small stones...just more pleasing to the eye (to me it doesnt matter what the

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS, I like it better with the 3rd round diamond, too!!!! Ack!!!!

And well, dare I say, that maybe -- just MAYBE -- you could consider adding two MORE small rounds, one at each end... little pixie ones, like maybe a .05 and a .08 ... just to kinda "finsh" the top and segway into the plain shank????!

Can you photoshop something like that???? What do you think????!

The one thing I am thinking is that the actual stones will need to be placed significantly farther away than is shown in your mock-up, because of the bezels. Can you move them a little farther apart, to get a look at that?

HI! and welcome! Your Auntie Lynn is indeed a doll on here, so I imagine you two have a great time together when diamonds are involved.

I like the CADS a lot and I do like it better with your two extra small diamonds, kind of fills up the top viewing area a bit more.

Also remember that the bezels will not be as thick when finished as they appear on the CAD.

How wide is the band? I have a ring that is 7 mm wide without a taper, and it is fine. But that is as wide as I will go.

As for the thick bezels, you should check, but I''m pretty sure that is just the drawing, and the final product will be much narrower after trimming and polishing.

I prefer the version with the fewer diamonds. The other one gets too busy for my taste, but it''s just an opinion.

Oh babeeee, BABEEEE! I LOVE it!!!

Remember, CADs are always thicker, chunkier, and blockier than real life. That''s why a lot of places don''t even provide customers with copies of the CADs, because if a person didn''t know better (and honestly, most people don''t), they could freak out!

I do agree those bezels look HUGELY THICK, and I don''t LOVE that, but I am sure it is simply the limitation of the CAD rendering and IRL they will be just JUUUUUST RIGHT! You could double check with Pete on that to be sure, though.

Other than that, I LOVE it and think it''s gorgeous! It''s exactly how I envisioned it.

I think tapering the shank in the back might be a good idea, too... do you have any rings about that width (maybe some silver or costume rings?) that are tapered AND non-tapered that you can try in for comparison of comfort? If not, maybe go shopping and try some stuff on.

And YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS, I like the two additional diamonds!!! Sorry!!! I can''t help myself! (Excellent photoshopping skills by the way!!!

) I just really like how "the design" then seems to completely "fill the top" of the ring, and I love that look.

Now, is it rocking your world, or not?! THAT is the most important thing!!!

PS, Gwynnie, I checked with Bunny just now and she said she "LOVES" it!!!!!
Although ever-practical girl that she is, she likes the "original" Quest version best (without the last two small diamonds that you photoshopped). EH, what does SHE know, anyway!? She''s just a pipsqueak 20-something!!!
