i did thank you guys eventually later down the thread. like mimzy said, i have had a lot on my plate so i haven''t been on ps as much to check on comments. i guess i don''t see why you had to write all those things even after i expressed my appreciation. wow...is the only words i have to describe what you all wrote just now.

how about let''s everybody just chill a little, make it a point to express gratitude for the efforts of someone else to help you, and make it a point to not take things so personally, myself included. things have been very heated lately--a lot of us have too much on our plates right now. let''s all try to be respectful and kind to each other, and in the spirit of what PS represents, be helpful, courteous, and appreciative of the merits of others.

::steps off soapbox::

well...that was relatively articulate considering the amount of chianti i just had with dinner, huh?!

While that is very well said...

I''ve also spent time helping people out too so it''s not like I don''t understand people helping out. I spent a couple hours one day searching for the perfect font so I could replicate a std for them in photoshop to save them some money on having a monogram created and various other things among this line. I''m sorry you guys don''t think I''m appreciative because I am.

It is stories like that, that make me so happy. I love it when we all get along and share ideas and give assistance...

I''m sorry, but I hate that cake. That color of green should be reserved for one of three things - 1. Astroturf, 2. Felt covering a pool table, or 3. Oscar the Grouch''s fur.

It looks much better in a lighter green, or in a white as some other people have taken the time to photoshop. Maybe that color looks more appetizing in real life, but it doesn''t look good on here.

Also, I was under the impression that when people do the cake switcheroo and have a sheet cake that they cut up in the back and bring out, that they intend to make the guests believe that the cake that they are eating is the actual cake that was on display and that was cut - so wouldn''t your sheet cake then need to be frosted in that spinach color as well? Because otherwise, what is the point of displaying a box covered with frosting, why not just have the sheet cake out for the cake cutting and face mashing part of the reception?

thanks for the honesty cellar but it does not have to be that color because it is our wedding and we can do whatever we want. it is not spinich green. it is a lovely dark holly/ever. it CERTAINLY is not the color of astroturf and i don''t even know how you came to that conclusion, that is like a bright green.

smurfy, i think part of the difference of opinions is that you have a specific shade of green in mind that you have seen in person, while all of us are looking at that shade of green on a computer monitor. unfortunately, certain dark colors often don''t translate well to a computer and can come out distorted (navy often looks black, browns can look like doodie instead of like a chocolate color, etc). i have to say that, while i *think* that you''re going for a rich, vibrant, almost jewel-tone holly green, looking at that cake on my computer monitor, it''s the EXACT color of spinach. i would also keep in mind that you may have the same problem in your wedding pictures--your cake could wind up looking almost black. i''m not saying to not do it--if that''s what you want, go for it. i''m just pointing out a few things you may not have considered.

I hadn''t thought about the pictures doodle, thanks for pointing that out. I think we are probably just going to hope for the best. If out of our 4000 pictures there are some that look funny because of the cake though, i think we''ll probably get over it :)

I just wanted to throw my opinion in. I think if the dark green cake is what you want, then that it fine. It''s your wedding and while the cake may not be many people''s style, it is unique. I like a lot of your ideas that you have on this board. I do have to say though, I still don''t feel like the light green vests go with that rich green bridesmaid color you chose. I absolutely LOVE the color that you chose for the bridesmaids, it is beautiful for a winter wedding. But, I have seen that vest color in person, and I *personally* don''t like it all. I wouldn''t even like it for a spring wedding, so it''s not just your winter wedding that I don''t think it works for. But, I think you have some great things figured out for your wedding.

we''re absolutely going with the color for the dresses because i''ve seen it in person but like you said we haven''t seen the vests in person. we have a swatch of the dark green color to bring with when we go check out the vests and who knows, we may end up changing our minds on that, you''re very right there happyfeet

Ouch.

Smufy...is there really a huge price difference in having the the display cake made of actual cake...and having sheet cake, esspecially since the baker is a close family friend? I just see you cutting a lot of corners to get this "dream" wedding--but some of the corners you are skimping on, or forgoing altogether, are things that will genuinely effect the final product, aka your wedding.

I know you''re working on a budget--as are many brides...and to have the wedding you want, you may have to use a lot of filler and less product...but I think, in the end you might be sorry you''re giving up quality for quantity. If this cake is genuinely a non-negotiable for you...shouldn''t it be all cake, and as close to perfect as possible and not some styrofoam dummy cake?

Good weddings, IMO, are full of the things that matter most to a couple--and it''s not about having everything half way, it''s about having a handful of things being as close to perfect as humanly possible.

The cake really isnt that big of a deal to me honestly. The things I wanted most were the wedding dress and the church and the venue.

I agree that you are stretching things too thin and are going to end up with a whole lot of pieces and not many "wholes"... if that makes sense.

I know you are on a budget, but the goal is to not let your guests be able to guess what your budget is!

Smurfysmiles- I know what it is like to be restricted with a budget, but as some other people have said you might be stretching things a little bit to thin. My fiance and I are having a longer engagement to make sure that we can afford to have the wedding that we want and what is a true refelction of us and our relationship.

I know this is your wedding, and you will do things the way you want, but just try and keep in mind that you only get this day once and you want that memory to be precious and not look back on it and wish you did some things differently. People have offered some great advice to try and pull together the look you are going for together, my only advice is to make decisions based on what you love, not just what will do
