Maybe I'm missing something. It's been a long day. I don't see what makes the stone an AGS 1. All the proportions look like they fall within the AGS 0 range to me. Regardless, the stone looks like it has the potential to be a good performer. Have you seen the stone, or do you have any other info like idealscope pictures, H&A pictures (if it's specifically cut to display H&A), brilliancescope, or ISEE2 results, that might help us further evaluate the cut? Going just by the numbers, it looks like the stone you listed has the potential to display excellent light return. I like the F VS2 combination, too, especially in a larger stone (i.e. over 2 carats) To me, it's a no compromise color/clarity comination. Hope that helps some. Welcome to the site.

Hi - thanks for the info. Yes I have seen the stone, and it is mahhvelous! No inclusions except a tiny stray feather that I can only barely detect with the loupe. Very brilliant with some fire, but again this is all subjective. I am no jeweler but I was very pleased with it under many different lighting I asked to observe it under. Unfortunately no ideal-scope data. I ran the HCA and I believe it was 1.9.

Once you've seen the diamond, that more than outweighs what the HCA is telling you, and apparently your eyes confirm what the HCA predicts. The fact that it looks good in all kinds of lighting is definitely encouraging. It sounds like it's got good numbers and it looks good to your eyes, so in my opinion, the next step would be to have it sent to a trusted independent appraiser, if possible in your area, so that the appraiser can further examine the stone on your behalf and give you a much better idea of the quality of the cut, and what a fair price would be. For the amount of money you'd be shelling out, to me it makes good sense to spend the extra $100 or so for the knowledge that you are making a good purchase. You'll need an appraisal for insurance purposes anyway, so it makes sense to do it ahead of time and get the piece of mind before you actually buy the stone. Just my 2 cents.

I have a 2.52ct stone with very similar numbers, and it is a beautiful stone --full of life. It sounds as if this one is also!

I get a 1A when I run your stone through the AGA DIY chart. The only angle that gets a 1b is the crown angle at 35, which mine has also. That makes it just slightly steeper, but get an expert to evaluate it and give you an opinion. It sounds like a winner.

The concensus on mine when we purchased it was that that one slight negative was in the hair splitting range that our eyes wouldn't pick up. And, it's still one of the top cuts around. (I remind myselve occasionally of that when I get too numbers focused.) Pick someone to appraise it who knows how to focus on cut and performance to give you peace of mind. The F/VS2 combo is a great, safe one, as long as they agree that it is that.

Thanks friends. I am getting it looked at today by David Wolf at JustAppraisers - I've read a lot about them and have seen good recos by members of this board. Only problem is that the jeweler will be there too, I gues to insure I don't run off with the rock! Is this common practice?

ANd you're right it really is easy to get caught up in the technical aspects sometimes, and forget to just look w/ your eyes and see if they can tell the story!
