I'm kind of new again. Haven't been on in many years. But insurance is requiring me to get an updated appraisal to issue my policy on the stone in my wedding ring. My old one is over 10 years old.

When we had it appraised before, it was sent out of state to a PS endorsed appraiser. Unfortunately, I don't have the time for sending it off (and honestly, not sure I would feel comfortable doing that again). But my concern is that if I have it appraised locally, it might end up undervalued as I fear they would not be familiar with the cut, which is no longer commercially available and, in my mind, irreplaceable :)

Would you let the coverage lapse for a short time to send it off? (there is a possibly it could be expedited and be done and back in time, but I might just cry knowing it's out there away from me!), or
Take your chances with a local appraiser?

Hi Ky, I remember you I'm sure!

Lovely to hear of a Regent again! What I'd do as a first step is contact the original appraiser and see what they suggest would be an appropriate increase, especially in view of how rare these are, what state are you in?

In my opinion, Lorelei is definitely on the right track. Contact the original appraiser and speak with him, ask him how he would handle it. Then, armed with this information, talk to your insurance agent. Ask him to put a temporary extension on the policy while you are getting the appraisal updated.

It is to his advantage to do so, as otherwise he risks loosing the policy.

Wink

Thank you.

I'm in Tulsa. There is only one appraiser listed in the PS directory for Tulsa and the number is no longer in service. I don't mind taking a small road trip to a larger market (Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Oklahoma City) for an appraisal if there is a recoommended trusted appraiser that is familiar with Regent.

But I will start by calling the original appraiser and seeing what she recommends.

I did speak to my insurance and I have five days after the new policy issues next week to get the updated appraisal to them.

Ugh! I just called and their office is closed while they are traveling for the next week and half :(

Annnnndddd now the insurance company just emailed saying they actually need the updated appraisal before 5/8 :angryfire:

So, now what? Original appraiser is not available. That leaves me with using airline flight benefits to fly to another appraiser or take a road trip.

Does anyone recommend a particular appraiser that is familiar with Regent?
Or should I just take my chances with someone here?

Blast....

The only other thing I can think of is try these chaps. You won't go wrong with either of them, they might be able to suggest a suitable updated value if you call, they should definitely be familiar with the Regent.

Failing that, try Jon Weingarten at www.augustvintageinc.com Jon used to sell them as you might remember but he's out on his own now with his branded diamonds, he might be able to help if needed or point you in the right direction.

I live in Dallas and used Jarvis Gems and Jewelry, they are a recommended PS appraiser and I’ve dealt with him twice so far. It’s been very good experience both times and he has a quick turnaround, just take your original appraisal with you if you decide to make the drive.

If you wanted to contact him here is his info

I’m in DFW too! Hate to highjack, but any area jewelers you recommend for a halo setting? Would rather avoid shipping out if there is one close by. Thanks!!

Dallas diamond exchange, diamond direct, Yater &Son will do custom. I’ve done business with both Yater and Diamond Direct, exchange I didn’t do business with but that is because I shipped my ring off to David Klass since his prices couldn’t be beat by anyone local

Thank you! I’ve been to Diamonds Direct. I’m having David convert my original ring into something cool, but I’m not ready to lose my upgrade for a month now that I finally have it! I appreciate your help :D

I’m in Dallas, too, and I’ve used Adore Bijoux in Plano for a couple of repairs and for a stock setting to good result. They do custom work and I would be inclined to give them a shot based on their service so far. (If you go see them, ping me here and we can have lunch - they’re right by my office.)

@ky6 - to get your thread back on course (kinda...), could we see a photo? I’ve not heard of a Regent before....off to the search bar...:read:
