Ever since Eva Longoria rocked it...I wanted it!! And now I have a diamond to make this happen. Attached is the link to Jean Dousset's famous Haley setting. I love everything about but still want thoughts from the community to make this just perfect.
1- Do you like the diamonds all around the basket and on the prongs? Will it give it more of a "bling" factor?
2- I love the more pronounced prongs...his signature. Do you think this will make the stone look larger, and the deep cut corners a little less prominent? I still want my diamond after it is set to have a classic EC look. However, I do know the corners are a bit more clipped than my previous stone....not crazy about clipped corners but was so perfect in all other ways.
3- Lastly, should I have David make a pave band to go with this while I am at it?

My last was a 3ct EC, very pretty, very plain 3 stone setting. Want to amp this up a bit!

Thank you Thank you! Want to get it right this time!

Here is video and a close up... none the best but something.

@Emeraldsaremyfavorite I'm past the time to delete my reply but I reported concern and asked mods to remove the post. :wavey:

I think the setting is perfect, as is, for your stone. The prongs will add to clipped corners, and def add bling to the EC. If I were going with this setting, I’d have pave everywhere, so this is certainly up my alley!
Do you want a pave band, or something with a little flair to compliment the EC? Perhaps a petite baguette band, set E-W? Can even have baguettes alternating with rounds to make it more cohesive.

I love your EC - its clipped corners are a huge factor in how gorgeous it is.
Will you wear a band with it? You may need a spacer if it’ll be a diamond band or engraved so the pave doesn’t eat it or get damaged by it

@PintoBean Thanks for contacting admin, hopefully they will take it down.
@foxinsox Thank you for the reassurance on the clipped corners! My last one was a more traditional EC, so I don’t think I’m used to seeing them more dramatic clipped corners. I wasn’t sure if it was making it look smaller. But glad to hear you think it adds to its beauty! Need to get use to it:D

@Matthews1127 Thank you as always for chiming in! I am not sure what to do for a band, I think I will wait until I have the ring in my hand and then see what it needs. I don’t have anything currently so David Klass would have to make me a brand new one.

That looks spectacular!

Can you go to the store and see the setting in person and then order it if you love it? I think it’s spectacular and yes, the single prints will illusion the cut corners to a degree. Why didn’t you go for a rectangular care cut? Just curious.

Sorry for typo’s. I gave up on defeating spellcheck a long time ago.

@scarsmum Jean Dousset doesn’t have the Haley settings in his store and they are extremely picky about how they set up appointments. I really do love it and feel confident in the setting, have been eying it for years. Was just trying to gauge everyone’s opinions if any minor changes should be made. What did you mean about “single print allusion?” I do like carre cuts, not as much as traditional ECs and they are so much harder to find! I was lucky enough to find this one which was in my budget, color, clarity and size I was looking for. I just didn’t feel I could be so picky about the corners or this would be years and years! And it seems many PS members love clipped corners... just new to me.

I love it! I think it's a great setting! YOU LOVE IT!!! Don't second-guess yourself! You can finally have what you've always wanted! GO FOR IT!!! :)

73FCCA0A-3051-49A6-9E2F-52945D39ACA7.png Initially CADS... this is not my wheel house. What do you think? Problem I am currently facing is my traps are 2.93mm wide, and the inspiration traps appear to be 3.5. Would it be worth it to just buy new traps in everyone’s opinion? I have a size 4 finger remember. Amy is drawing up a CAD with what my traps would look like

_32759.jpgHere is my old setting... to me the traps look wide enough, east west because my finger size. Thoughts? my_36.jpg_32780.jpg

What length are your traps? Are they taller, shorter or the same size as the inspiration set? It looks like the inspiration traps are 4.5 x 3.5, am I right?

I know you're unsure about your cut corners but I think they're awesome. I'm only partially joking here, bit I really wanted to say that I would be tempted to do double prongs to really highlight them (that would really be even more bling ha ha)! The substantial single prongs are going to hide them a bit - although it does sound like that may be your goal! :)

Out of interest, and I ask because I know nothing about these cuts of diamonds, but essentially each of those cut corners has two 'points/tips'. Do they each have to be covered by prong so they don't chip?

This ring is going to be something special. In all honesty and seriousness, I feel if you have been eyeing this setting with hearts coming out of your eyes for so long, try not to make too many modifications. :) If something is wrong about your inspiration ring that does need changing I feel you will just know.

Yes, I think they're wide enough across your finger, and the new stone is wider than the old stone, right? So you'll have even more coverage than with the old setting (but it also depends upon the angle they'll be set in with the Dousset ring.).
Also, the shank will be covered with melee so you won't see any metal to speak of on the sides of your finger. If you like the proportions of your traps with the new stone and setting, then I think you can use them. But let's see what Amy sends you and then weigh in.

Those side stones that you have are much... Longer? than your inspiration setting. I think they look great but they don't give it the same scale. What do you feel about that? Will be interesting to see the new CAD.

Not sure how long my old traps are but east west they are 2.93. Ones in the CAD 3.5mm. David did say he would cut down my traps as they are a little longer than inspiration.

@Lykame I will have to check on the points of the clipped corners regarding chipping, good point. I’m thinking if I make my current traps just a little shorter in length but the same east west I might get the look I am after. I want the EC to be the star of the show so definitely shorter traps... north south in my opinion.
@Blingalingaling I do think mine are wide enough, just looking back at my old setting I had nearly all finger coverage with a size 4 finger. And this diamond is about 1 mm wider than my last. Let’s see what Amy comes up with! I want this to be perfect, so if I need new traps it’s not a huge cost. I think the CADS will help a lot. Stay tuned!!

Thanks again everyone! I looked at the video again... those traps seem small!! Am I missing something??

I just wanted to add that I think your new diamond is a very well cut, classic emerald cut! The clipped corners are perfect and desirable.

I think your inspiration setting is beautiful, but it is a ring that will need special care. It's not recommended to wear a wedding band when you have three sided pave on the shank and pave on the base of the head, but maybe you aren't planning to. You'll have to clean the ring often, but all diamonds need that. Sometimes pave doesn't do well in an ultrasonic, so I'd ask your ringmaker if this ring will be able to be cleaned frequently in a home ultrasonic.

@diamondseeker2006 thank you for the kind words. It’s so nice to hear that after making such a large purchase and spending months looking for a stone! Now it’s just about getting the setting right. And thank you for the advice on cleaning the ring, had no idea about that. I don’t think I’m going do anything about the band until I get the ring to see if I think it needs it.

If you wanted to wear a band, the design of the ring could have the prongs curve in more at the base to allow a band to sit closer. And in that case, you'd also need to eliminate the pave at the base of the head. The ring as it is is a stand alone ring as another ring would rub against that pave which could damage both rings.

This is a ring made by Victor Canera, and it shows how the prongs curve inward at the base of the head to allow a band to be worn. It also has double claw prongs which protect those corners.

I have no idea how jewelers come up with CADS based on pics and videos! Do you all think the traps are small enough and tapered enough? 4.5 mm by 3.5x. Here are some more photos of what I am after. David can cut down my old ones which will be cost effective and make sure they are perfect. Also, what would be the band mm-guess? TIA!73FCCA0A-3051-49A6-9E2F-52945D39ACA7.png
