neimans has an entire page devoted to the Royal asschers collection. I never noticed before.... is this new?

They have all types of jewelry... the solitaires range from 12-20k.

What ps venders also sell the official cut?

How cool! I'm thinking it's new because I have not seen it before and I get at least 2 emails/day from them.

I noticed this a while ago but dismissed it because as much as I LOVE Neiman''s I still don''t think I''d buy a diamond from them. The prices seemed a bit high too.

Not new....

OK then, guess I must have been asleep at the wheel! LOL! Sorry. Ignore my above post.

Thanks, 777.

Ohhh.. I am sure there is a nice mark up. This is why I was curious about a ps vender for comparison.

on a 18 wg chain... the .85 E VS is $8850 and the 1.12 G VVS2 is $17,250!!!! yikes!

You can get a 1.06 F VS2 with Excellent symmmetry for under $6500 at GOG... but not sure how much premium for the Royal Asscher name alone.

Ouch!!!!! That is extremely high!

I had thought that the Royal Asscher folks had stopped production & were selling off the remaining stock through Neiman Marcus. But I can''t swear to it ...

Beautiful, no doubt. But not enough people seemed to value the optics enough to overcome the dreaded combo: super high cost + small "face up" size.

I thought Neimans would need a lot of very pecific inventory to sell via the web. No one else knows as PS vender? Some ps''er have purchased the official RA''s... but not from named venders that I can find.

I know this sounds crazy... but for some reason it BOTHERS ME that any yahoo with a credit card can walk into a department store and buy an amazing assscher.

Only a few folks can buy ''em ... play around with the quantities ... its obv. that they only have a few in stock. Two solitaires ... a couple of pendants ... etc. I really think its "closeout" merchandise.

A few months (a year??) back a few PSers had luck getting "closeout" RA''s at jewelry stores. I don''t believe any PS vendor stocks them any longer. They can be found 2nd hand I guess ... but very hit & miss.

Another factor in the RAs going out of production (if that is indeed the case) is that other cutters started cutting almost exact duplicates of RA''s -- it wasn''t so convincing that they were worth SO MUCH extra $$.

I agree with deco, I''m sure that if one of the items they carry were to sell it would be removed from the site immediately. It happens all the time with department stores, no matter the merchandise, when they are limited or one of a kind items.

Let''s see what DB decides on to know for sure though! DB, glad to enable

they sure are perrrty!! Also, I''m sure that if someone could afford to buy an amazing asscher from NM they could afford to get it pretty much anywhere! If it were me considering (which it isn''t!) I''d buy it during a point event!

Another interesting thing to point out - if you negotiate the price down of an expensive piece, Neiman''s won''t allow you to get the points and the lower price

Not so...I bought a very expensive watch, got at least a 15-20% reduction in price, and was encouraged to sign up for a NM acct. just so I could take advantage of those points...I got A LOT of great underwear for free that year! I think it depends on the sales associate.

The price you pay can certainly depend on the sales associate and what discounts they are allowed to give, however, you can''t exclude getting the points in addition to any discounts unless it''s stated prior to a points "event." During the year the points program rules are already stated and you receive them anytime you use your store account. I don''t think a sales associate would have the authority to exclude purchases because they are awarded after the billing cycle.

Royal Asschers are still being cut. Here''s a list of current carriers of the brand:

http://www.asscher.nl/en/royal_asscher/

The company that was the American distributor went under but the Asscher company is fine and thriving. You can definitely get a better deal if you shop around. The NM prices reflect the markup of Royal Asschers as well as the Neiman Marcus markup. A jeweler in my area started carrying them last fall and I''ll admit I''m sold on them looks wise but maybe not ready to spend the extra coin on them.
