hi, i need to buy a ring and have it before 3/13!

i dont really have a price range but i know i want the ring to be 1ct.

I only want the quality of the cut and color to be almost perfect to the naked eye.
It has to be a round brilliant cut.
i know this is vague, but really, what else does anyone want??
i dont care if under an electron microscope you can see the crystal lattice to have one
atom of Si floating around! I would simply like to look at it and say, wow, that looks like a great
stone. I dont want visible includions with the bare eye.

I would also like to spend under a grand for the setting. I simply want a Tiffany''s style solitare ring in Platinum for the round cut.

can anyone help me?? there are 100s of places to buy from. i see many names thrown around. can anyone help me with how much I should spend for this?

I know my deadline is coming close, I am a law student and dont have time to go to multiple stores and no time to really figure this out myself.

Welcome to Pricescope! Glad you''re getting educated for this important event!

First thing you can do is look through the tutorials to understand what you''re shopping for.

Next thing is to look under Pricescope Vendors to find someone to make the ring. All Pricescope vendors are easy to work with, honest, and trusted.

Now, HERE''S a ring that I just made on Whiteflash.com. If you go to details, you can see the stone info and the setting info. That particular stone scores a 1.6 on the HCA. (under Tools, Cut Adviser is listed. This is a very effective way to determine a stones performance. Just enter the numbers as they are shown on the certificate, and it will show you the qualities of any round brilliant stone.) JamesAllen.com, GoodOldGold.com, and Whiteflash.com are vendors that are used often around here. Jump on their sites and peruse.

Good Luck!

Go to the menu above and click "Knowledge," then "What to buy," and read up. Then go to "cut quality search," set cut quality to "excellent" and "excellent," put in your color preferences, for clarity you''re safe to VS2 and probably to SI1, and hit "go" to get an idea of what''s out there and for what price. H SI1 is a pretty typical "budget" parameter - some people prefer higher color, some will go lower for larger carat weight, some want high clarity - a lot of this is a function of budget, your social circle, your gf''s expectations, whatever. You can sort the results of your cut quality search by price by clicking on the price link at the top (there may be a delay). Keep in mind that this will only return diamonds for which all of the information is easily available re: crown and pavilion angles. Blue Nile, while not one of my personal favorites, does have a huge selection of mostly 3rd party stones (not physically housed with BN), and you can get enough information on these stones from their grading reports to run a "cut advisor" on them, but you''ll have to do it manually, they will not show up on the cut quality search.

i don''t see a pic...

here it is!
is something like this ok?
the mount seems a bit steep...can someone fill me in with the realities?

I wouldn't get that one..table and depth % are too high...i'd go for one like this:

http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&track=btntext_viewselect&elem=img&pid=LD01234406&filter_id=0

ETA: a simple platinum solitaire setting is only $500 at BN still...might wanna go through there *we've used them lots of times...I can highly recommend.

plat is very high right now so even plain plat solitaires are going to be 1K or more. the true tiffany style like the one you posted is right in line pricewise for what it is.

so it seems like 4k is what im going to spend +- a few 100 for the stone, and 1k for the ring.

is this accurate?

Well, yes, it''s definitely expensive, but you''d still save going with them than Tiffany, and they have a very nice Tiffany style setting.

You don''t want that diamond.

Welcome!

How about something like this one -- 1.081 G VS2, $7,757 (bankwire price - you can inquire about any possible additional Pricescope member discount)

This particular stone is from Whiteflash.com. It is one of their "superideal" cut diamonds so you know that the "cut" is top notch and visually, this diamond''s performance should be outstanding!

It is right around your carat range and the color G is at the top end of the "near colorless range" or right outside of the D-E-F "colorless" range, thus getting you more bang for your buck ... due to not paying the premium for like stones in the D-E-F range.
Additionally, it has VS2 clarity, which, for the most part, should guarantee that any inclusions are not visible to the eye. You can, however, contact Whiteflash to confirm that this diamond is indeed "eyeclean".

I hope that this helps! Good luck finding your perfect diamond and setting!

*forgot to mention -- WF also has simple solitaire Tiffany like settings available so while on their site you can check those out too.

ok, let me throw this out there...

my sister works at macy's...now dont laugh but the option of getting 30% of a ring just by buying it at macy's is tempting.

im sure there is a huge markup there and the selection may be sketchy....but 30% isnt a joke.

she gets 20% any day, and i have a 10% cupon....

am i still better off here??

i am looking to make the purchase like this week.
i know i should not rush this, but years later none of this will matter!
i just need to have the ring by march 13, and i would like to save cash if possible.

wow, you guys are awesome!
i cant believe how fast this thread moves!!

OOoooh! To add to my previous post ... I found this one as well and it might be more to your liking, pricewise ...

0.91 G VS2, $5,418 (bankwire price)

This diamond is from Good Old Gold, another reputable PS vendor. It is also a Hearts and Arrows diamond.

Both of these ones look like winners...

can you get GIA stones? they are very overpriced.
march 13 is enough time to do the job right.

HI:

Yes, PLEASE throw that idea right OUT!

You want to save cash? Go for a smaller stone--but do not sacrifice cut quality. And where possible choose a vendor with a great upgrade policy!

cheers--Sharon

If quality is your most important consideration, a Macy''s bought diamond is probably not for you.

If you would just like to purchase a diamond, period, I would hazard a guess to say that even with your 30% discount, you would still be paying around the same or maybe even more for a product that is of lesser quality than a likepriced item that you would be able to find online, for example.

Just my two cents ... Do you know anything, specs wise about the Macy''s diamond?

i went to a local macys in milwaukee, and no, they did not have gia..they had some other cert...

i was thinking the macy's on michigan ave in chicago may have best selection in the midwest though....
yes, they have certs with all the cut and quality stuff....but it was like IGA i believe...

ok, so im not too late for mar13....thanks!

im going to post what im going to get before i actually do it, and give you "pros" like a day or two to confirm it!

Yes you're still better off here, the stones that Macy's sells aren't well cut and are very included. At least from what I have seen. Discount or no discount. I know it's tempting, but don't do it.

If you like that stone and are fairly certain you want to consider it further, I would ask them to "hold" it or else it might be snatched up.

A Mark Morrell setting ... SO beautiful. That would be an amazing choice. They are very popular around these parts. Why sir, I do say you have fabulous taste!

Have you tried looking at the Signed Pieces website? They have some "previously owned" Tiffany pieces that are going for less, of course, than regular retail price, thus making them more reasonable.

If you just want a simple solitaire setting ... Check out Whiteflash''s settings ... they offer both 4 and 6 prong settings in a simple solitaire.

Found one on Signed Pieces ... Here is the link. It is a 0.65 ct E VVS1 Tiffany & Co simple solitaire engagement ring for $5,700.

It''s not the carat weight you are seeking and the color and clarity are higher than you would like, however, if you are intent on finding an authentic Tiffany setting, this may be the one ... it''s the closest they seem to have in stock right now.

YES! Yes!

Pull the trigger!

What is there to lose given that you can return it w/in 30 days if you are not satisfied?

Size 6 is a fairly middle road finger size. If her finger is a little larger at an 8, my assumption would be that they could easily size that or if it is a little smaller at a 4, they should be able to do the same. Now if the ring was a size 3.5 and her finger was a 7, that might be a problem.

Any reputable jeweler in your area should be able to resize it if Signed Pieces isn''t able to do it for you.

Geez ... this is so exciting!

well, i graduate in may, and dont work till then.

so i would like to pay with thoes cheesy credit card checks that have 0ARP for a year so i can then pay for it when i get my signing bonus in June.

i assume since i already filled out the order the ring is on hold, because they told me its not going to ship until they get the check and it clears....
